Our fearless leader and I had a mini discussion on the Twitter last night. It was about, go figure, the BCS. Sparty said that,”normally stay out of the BCS talks. playoffs won’t make reg season meaningless. but it also won’t give us a more definitive champ.” This is absolutely true. The regular season would be the same. The conference games would be the game. And in no way would there be a definitive champ out of a playoff (maybe a 4 game playoff, but that’s a different discussion).
The last sentence is the key. With a playoff there would be even less of a definitive champion than there is now. LSU could lose, even though they are the best team in the nation. Alabama could lose. Knock out either of those teams, and you have…well you can go from there.
A playoff would make for good TV watching, and would likely bring in more TV money. It’s be a whole lot more enjoyable to watch. Just not definitive.
