The past few days have been full of some fun surprises.  First, Gerald Henderson took a minute to shoot back a rebuttal to my calling Larry Bird’s steal against the Pistons in 1987 “The best play in Celtics history“ Then Keith Olbermann decided he wanted to disagree with me too.  He said John Havlicek’s steal in 1965 was the best. While all three were great plays that can lay claim to the top spot, I’m going to stick to my original assertion that Bird’s play was better. Why it’s better than “Havlicek Stole the Ball!” It was a great play, no doubt.  And it comes with a CLASSIC Johnny Most exultation. “Havlicek stole the ball!” While it might be the most famous call in Celtics history, it’s not quite better than Bird’s. First, the Celtics had the lead.  There’s no telling what could have happened with those last five seconds.  Sure, Keith Olbermann had a point when he said the Celtics would have been eliminated IF Wilt Chamberlain got the ball and dunked it.  That doesn’t ta

Danny talks Rondo, Ray, Tanking and Coach Stevens

Danny Ainge was Boston sports radio 98.5 the SportsHub before the Shamrock Foundation's sixth annual Teeing up For Kids Golf Tournament this morning. It has been rumored that 98.5 will be the radio home of the Celtics this season and so we can expect them to be a bit more aggressive with their Celtics coverage, starting with this morning's interview with Danny Ainge on the...

Avery Bradley has a baby named AB3, also no contract expected

A lot has been going on in the life of Celtics guard Avery Bradley. With the season quickly approaching, the defensive stud recently lost his mother and welcomed a new child into the world, according to ESPN's Chris Forsberg. Ainge also noted that Bradley and his girlfriend welcomed their first child, Avery Bradley III, on Tuesday morning. Said Ainge: "So AB3 we’ll...

Sullinger due back in court Oct. 28

Jared Sullinger’s court case will continue on, though his girlfriend Deann Smith wishes to drop the case completely. The Celtics forward appeared in Waltham District Court on Monday for a pretrial hearing, and is due back for a second pretrial session on Oct. 28, according to media sources. This pretrial hearing is only two days before the Celtics regular season opener in Milwaukee...

Ainge: We Won't Tank

Danny Ainge was very candid and forthright about the state of the Celtics in his appearance on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Toucher and Rich on Tuesday morning. When asked about tanking, he made himself clear. “I don’t think our team is in that situation,” Ainge said. Furthermore, the Celtics GM expressed his belief that winning is still essential, even after the slew of moves...

Report: Jared Sullinger’s Punishment From Celtics Depends on Outcome of Domestic Violence Case

Jared Sullinger is expected to be on hand when the Celtics open training camp next week at the team’s training facility in Waltham, Mass., just as he has been every day for weeks working out this offseason. Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said Tuesday that he does not see any reason Sullinger would not be present for the team’s media day Monday, according...

Your Celtics Life Week in Review... 9/22/13

After a long hiatus due to an offseason of inactivity and the laziness of yours truly, Celtics Life Week in Reviews are back! What a week is was! We found out about some former Celtics players that are always top of mind like Joe Pace and Johnny McCarthy. It's nice to focus on those guys, because boy is that current Celtics section looking depressing. Catch up on a busy week...

Avery Bradley, Celtics Not Close to Contract Extension, Could Wait Until Next Summer to Begin Talks

Avery Bradley is entering the last season before he becomes eligible for restricted free agency in 2014. The Celtics only have a little more than a month left before they would need to table contract extension talks until next summer, and the team sounds content to wait. Bradley and the Celtics will “most likely” wait until after the season to have substantive negotiations, Celtics...

Celtics GM Would Be ‘Shocked’ If Rondo Returned For Start Of Regular Season

CSNNE Celtics insider, Sherrod Blakely, reported in August that he expected Rondo to miss the first month of the season and now Celtics general manager, Danny Ainge, is backing up that theory. In an interview with ESPN’s Chris Forsberg, Ainge said he would be “shocked” if Rondo were ready for the season opener, also predicting an early December return for the Celtics point...

Kelly Olynyk Rides the Green Line

The Celtics have released the above video of Kelly Olynyk riding the Green Line to the Garden. I really like the way he has gotten involved in the community and the fans this summer. He spent the day at Canobie Lake Park in Salem, N.H. with young people affiliated with the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. He also visited Fenway Park wearing a Red...

Celtics’ GM Danny Ainge: I’d be ‘Shocked’ if Rondo is Ready for Season Opener

I didn’t think Rondo would be ready by the season opener. And with the Celtics not exactly contenders this season, no reason to rush him back at all. Ainge said he'd be "shocked" if Rondo ready for season opener. Hesitates on timeline and said they will take it week by week and not rush. — […]

Bird expects NBA Finals run for Pacers

Larry Bird boldly has proclaimed that the Indiana Pacers are "all in" and says anything less than an NBA Finals appearance this season would be a disappointment. In an interview with The Indianapolis Star , the Pacers' president of basketball operations -- who took a year off before returning to the front office this year -- declared that this should be the year his...

Kris Humphries Among Must-Watch Aspects of Celtics Training Camp Filled With Intrigue (Podcast)

The goal for the Celtics is a little different this year. Instead of trying to wring one last championship run from the tired, old legs of Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, the Celtics have started anew with a younger, far less star-studded roster. A few of the new guys, like Rajon Rondo‘s old nemesis Kris Humphries, might not be so welcomed by Celtics fans. Meanwhile, the familiar...

Celtics Close To 98.5 Deal, Belichick Has No Patience For Salk and Holley

While it has been rumored as being close for some time now, it appears a deal to make 98.5 The SportsHub the radio home of the Boston Celtics is really close now. Sean Grande and Danny Ainge both appeared on the Toucher and Rich show this morning, and while no announcement has been made yet, it seems pretty obvious that this is going to happen. I’m conflicted on the move to this...

Keith Olbermann’s Show Strikes A Blow For Smart Fans

There’s no shame in admitting caution upon the announcement that Keith Olbermann would return to ESPN. As good as he was during his first stint on the network, his political ventures soured the taste. Olbermann needed to find middle ground between his start and his latest. Thus far, he’s done a damn good job. His […]The post Keith Olbermann’s Show Strikes A Blow For Smart...
