PLAYERS: Dustin Pedroia
TEAMS: Boston Red Sox
96
It's official. Dustin Pedroia has signed a seven-year contract extension. Pedroia's $100 million deal is the richest in Major League Baseball history for a second baseman. Pedroia, 29, is in the fourth year of a six-year deal that included an $11 million team option for '15. Instead of an option year, that will now mark the starting point of his new deal, which was first reported by WEEI.com and subsequently confirmed by MLB.com. "I just want to make sure I'm playing my last game here. That's important," he said. "It's the only thing I know. I love putting on the Red Sox uniform every day. Every game is important to me and my teammates. It's pretty special." In this day and age, it is rare for star players -- or any players for that matter -- to spend an entire career with one team. But Pedroia and the Red Sox have always had a unique relationship. Pedroia loves all that playing baseball in Boston entails, and the Red Sox fully appreciate a player who embodies everything they want their franchise to represent. Pedroia Attends Franklin Sports Hitting Clinic

Addressing Clinic (FN Photo)Wednesday was an extremely busy day for Dustin Pedroia. He had to put the finishing touches on his new 8-year, $110 million deal; take a physical; and be a hero to a bunch of kids at a batting clinic. Oh, by the way, he also had to face David Price a little later on. Because of all the morning contract activity, Pedroia was a little late to the Franklin...

Boston Red Sox: Five bold predictions

It’s around that point in the season where it’s time for me to put my fortune-telling cap on and make some predictions for the end of the year. You may think some are crazy, and others are genius, but regardless what you think, these will all 100% happen. The Red Sox will win the AL East on the last day of the season. Green Monster standings This year’s version of the AL East...

Dustin Pedroia Isn’t Ruling Out ‘Growth Spurt’ or Playing Beyond New Lengthy Contract, Says ‘I Feel Good, Dude’

BOSTON – Quick, what will you be doing nine years from now? It’s a difficult question to answer, even for Dustin Pedroia, who just signed an eight-year contract extension with the Red Sox that will take him through the 2021 season. But while a lot can happen between now and then, Pedroia isn’t ruling out the possibility of playing beyond his age 38 season, despite the wear...

Report: Dustin Pedroia Agrees to Seven-Year Contract Extension With Red Sox

Dustin Pedroia is the face of the Red Sox, and he’s going to continue to hold that role for a very long time. The Boston second baseman has signed a seven-year, $100 million contract extension with the club, according to multiple reports. WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford was the first to report the news, and that was later confirmed by USA Today’s Bob Nightengale. Pedroia will reportedly...

Pedroia extension the right move

© Kayla Chadwick 2012 I could spend weeks waxing poetic about what Dustin Pedroia means to the Red Sox organization, the city of Boston, and the fans, so to say I was thrilled when I found out about his new contract extension would be an understatement for the ages. Yes, I understand why some people have reservations about the length of the deal. One of Pedroia’s greatest strengths...

Pedroia Signs 7 Year Extension, Takes Hometown Discount

Not wanting to see the market for second baseman skyrocket and try to battle for signing Dustin Pedroia two years from now, the Red Sox locked up the 2008 AL MVP through the 2021 season. Not only do the Red Sox now have the 4-time All-Star for 7 extra years, but they have him at a fairly discounted rate. The 7 year deal is reportedly worth $100 million, and for the time being, makes...

Tito talks Pedroia, takes friendly jab at second baseman

Dustin Pedroia will get to dirty up many more Red Sox uniforms with his eight-year deal. (Photo courtesy of Boston.com) Ben Whitehead Contributing Writer During Terry Francona’s time as manager of the Boston Red Sox, it was no secret that he and Dustin Pedroia had built more than just a manager-player relationship. From playing cribbage on flights and before games to the constant...

Red Sox Extend Dustin Pedroia at Ian Kinsler Price

Last week, in rating Dustin Pedroia 25th on the trade value list, I noted that he was “an elite player making a relative pittance for the next two seasons.” That is still true, but his relative pittance is going to grow substantially starting in 2015, as the Red Sox have agreed to sign Pedroia to a long term contract that will keep him in Boston through 2021. As Rob Bradford...

Report: Boston, Pedroia agree on deal

The Boston Red Sox and second baseman Dustin Pedroia are in agreement on a seven-year, $100 million deal, according to Red Sox beat writer Rob Bradford.

Red Sox, Pedroia Agree To Eight Year Extension

It's rare these days in Major League Baseball to see a player end his career with the team he was drafted by or even signed as an undrafted or international player. Two guys come to the top of my head. Todd Helton of the Colorado Rockies and Mariano Rivera of the New York Yankees. I'm sure there are more out there but those are the two that came to me. Helton, because...

John Henry ‘Not Confident’ That Red Sox Will Re-Sign Jacoby Ellsbury, But Says ‘It Would Be Great If We Could’

BOSTON – Dustin Pedroia will remain in Boston for the foreseeable future, but there’s still some uncertainty surrounding one of the team’s other stars. Jacoby Ellsbury, who has turned his year around following a slow start, is slated to become a free agent after this season. And while there’s certainly a possibility that Ellsbury will follow in Pedroia’s footsteps and sign...

Can we stop calling Dustin Pedroia the leader of the Boston Red Sox?

In what has been the worst kept secret in baseball, the Boston Red Sox finally signed second-baseman Dustin Pedroia to a contract extension. The deal, the first $100 million contract for a second-baseman in the history of baseball, keeps Pedroia in a Red Sox uniform until he is thirty-eight years old. All things considering, the deal is fair. At a position where high-levels of offensive...
