Found September 25, 2013 on Boston Sports Media Watch:
Of all the teams that have a playoff position locked in, the Red Sox have the most expensive average ticket price on the secondary market. They also have the highest premium compared to their regular season average of any team in the playoffs. The 270% premium is ahead of both the Dodgers and Pirates, and an indication for how excited Red Sox fans are for an October run. If you’re looking to catch some of the action without breaking the bank, the LDS is definitely your best bet. The current average price for Red Sox tickets at Fenway for the LDS is $373, which is almost $200 more than the next highest team, the Dodgers.  Dodgers tickets have an average price $182, which is the highest price for any non wild-card team in the NL.  Pirates tickets have an average price of $184, but they’d first have to win a wild card game to play any of those. At an average price of $329, game two for the Red Sox LDS is currently the cheapest game of the series and has a get-in price of $76. Game one ...

Dustin Pedroia likely needs surgery

The Guru Contributing Writer Al Messerschmidt/Getty Images Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia has played all season long with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his thumb. The Sox second baseman suffered the injury on Opening Day against the Yankees. Despite the injury, Pedroia has appeared in 158 of Boston's 159 games this season. While we never had to start a Buchholz...

Middlebrooks Unleashed, Yankees’ Run Ceased

The Red Sox have already surpassed my wildest September dreams, so I am able to dismiss their erratic play of late — only 2-2 since clinching last Friday, but against teams they should be liquidating, like Toronto and Colorado — as perhaps working out the kinks before the playoffs. With last night’s pulverizing of the Rockies, highlighted by a 7 RBI night from Will Middlebrooks...

Jacoby Ellsbury’s Return to Starting Lineup Gives Red Sox Boost Heading Into Postseason (Video)

The Red Sox have missed their leadoff hitter during the last 16 games, but on Wednesday night Jacoby Ellsbury will be back back in his spot. After fracturing a bone in his right foot, Ellsbury returns to the lineup with four regular-season games to be played, and the center fielder hopes to be 100 percent by the time the playoffs roll around. With Ellsbury hitting .299 this season...

Will Middlebrooks, Red Sox One Step Closer to Locking Up AL’s Top Seed After Huge Offensive Effort in Colorado

The Red Sox are one step closer to securing home-field advantage. The Red Sox entered Wednesday’s game against the Rockies with the luxury of knowing that the Athletics already lost to the Angels. Boston proceeded to take care of business behind a relentless offensive attack. The Red Sox racked up 16 hits in a 15-5 rout, and Boston will now head to Baltimore with a two-game edge...

Jacoby Ellsbury returns to lineup in Red Sox rout of Rockies

With the postseason fast-approaching, the Boston Red Sox were anxious to get Jacoby Ellsbury back in the lineup.  It's important that he get a few at-bats in before the team begins the playoffs.  That's what happened last night when Ellsbury returned to the lineup for the first time in 16 games. The Red Sox took on the Colorado Rockies last night, but the game quickly...

Middlebrooks bat helps Boston Red Sox split series with Rockies

Coming off a poorly pitched game on Tuesday night in their 8-3 loss to the Colorado Rockies, the Boston Red Sox rebounded nicely on Wednesday to finish the brief two game series with a 15-5 win on Wednesday. Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks sparked the Boston bats this series including a seven RBI night on Wednesday. Those seven RBIs included two home runs including a grand...

Vote: Which Red Sox Pitcher Would You Start in Game 1 of the Division Series?

The Red Sox are locked, loaded and ready for postseason action. Just a few games and about a week of off days separate the Sox from playoff baseball and many fans in Red Sox Nation are wondering who will take the bump when the Sox host Game 1 of the ALDS at Fenway Park. Clay Buchholz, Jon Lester, John Lackey and Jake Peavy could all handle the ace role in October but only one will...

Grand jury indicts Sox broadcaster's son in murder

The son of Boston Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy has been indicted by a Massachusetts grand jury for murder in the death of his girlfriend. Jared Remy has already pleaded not guilty in the stabbing death of Jennifer Martel. The Middlesex District Attorney's Office said Tuesday that Remy will be arraigned Oct. 8 in Superior Court. Remy is accused of repeatedly stabbing Martel...

How Important Is Home Field Advantage in the Playoffs?

If the Red Sox are lucky enough to make it to the 2013 World Series, they will, thanks to the magic of the All-Star Game, enjoy home field advantage. The ALDS will be a different story, as the Oakland A’s are currently nipping at our heels — or, at just one game behind us for the AL’s best record, already stuffing a foot in our cleats. Also, the A’s have only the Angels...

Red Sox Report: Home Field Advantage Crucial for Sox

Last night the Red Sox clinched the American League East for the first time since 2007. What could be next?  Well, with four games left in the regular season the Red Sox sights are on home field advantage in the American League. These games still matter.  After a loss last night to the Rockies in Colorado the Red Sox were rooting for the Angels to beat the A’s so Oakland would...

Why do the Red Sox need homefield?

Photo Courtesy of ESPN Conor Frederick Contributing Writer According to ESPN, the Red Sox are a game ahead of the Oakland Athletics for the American League's best record. Keep an eye on that, because whoever gets the AL's best record gets home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Remember - the AL won the All Star Game, so they'll have home field in the World Series...

Your Morning Dump...where ALDS opponents are narrowed down

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. So which is the best team to face? “If I were the Red Sox, I’d go for the Indians,” said an American League special assignment scout. “With [Justin] Masterson injured, the Red Sox can hit the...

Middlebrooks destroys Colorado

Photo courtesy of the Globe Conor Frederick Contributing Writer Will Middlebrooks drove in almost half of the Red Sox runs last night with 2 swings of his bat. A 3-run shot to the opposite field and grand slam just inside the left field foul pole. It may have been Todd Helton's farewell in the Mile High City, but Middlebrooks ruined it by turning last night's game by turning...
