The San Antonio Spurs have put themselves in an ideal situation against the Memphis Grizzlies in the Western Conference Finals, but there is still plenty of work left to be done. San Antonio took a 2-0 lead with a solid performance in overtime on Tuesday night, which was enough to overwhelm at least one fan in the building. As you can see, some Spurs fan screamed “We did it!” after the final buzzer sounded and made the win official. Keep in mind that this is a San Antonio team that has won four NBA championships with Gregg Popovich and Tim Duncan, so a 2-0 lead in a conference final is hardly enough to please its fans. Well, except that guy. Unlike the lady who ruined the broadcast of a Spurs game against the Golden State Warriors earlier in the playoffs, this gentleman’s screech at the end of the game was harmless. Sometimes it’s just impossible to contain your excitement after a postseason victory.

Western Conference Finals: Tim Duncan holds his ground in San Antonio in games 1-2

37-year-old Tim Duncan isn’t your typical aging big man.  He is in a world of his own.  No matter how strong or how talented his competition is, Duncan will find a way to give himself an advantage.  His strong presence is a big reason the Spurs have garnered a 2-0 lead on the Memphis Grizzlies. Zach Randolph was feeling great in the first two rounds.  He brought tremendous...

Tim Duncan Would Have Looked Surprisingly at Home in Celtics Jersey Without Draft Lottery (Photo)

In case you have blocked the 1996-97 season from memory, you know the Celtics were really bad. They won 15 games and finished with the worst record in the Eastern Conference by a wide margin. Only the Grizzlies, who won 14 games, were within five losses of that terrible Celtics squad. Hopes were high, though, because the Celtics had the inside track for the first overall pick. (The...

How Duncan would look like in a Celtics uniform

Hard to imagine it has been 16 years since the San Antonio Spurs won the 1997 NBA Draft Lottery and drafted Tim Duncan out of Wake Forest. Duncan not only changed the future of the Spurs, it also changed the path for the Boston Celtics who had the best odds to get the No. 1 pick in 1997. The Spurs drafted Duncan and the Celtics drafted Chancey Billups and Ron Mercer. For the...

Tim Duncan, Spurs Helping Reject Absurd Cliché That Defense Does Not Matter in NBA

My wife sat down on the couch, glanced at the TV and caught a glimpse of Tim Duncan‘s incredulous mug making it clear that he disagreed with a foul call. “He still plays?” she asked. “How old is he now, like 50?” That is patently absurd, of course. Duncan’s not a day over 49. And after he scored just six points in the Spurs’ victory over the Grizzlies in Game 1 of the...

Matchup of the Game: Spurs vs. Grizzlies Game 2

The matchup of the game for Game 2 in the Western Conference Finals will be between Tim Duncan and Zach Randolph. Duncan had a 6 point, 10 rebound game in Game 1, which wasn't the prettiest offensive numbers for the Spurs' cornerstone. He did make up for it on the defensive end, holding Randolph to 2 points (1-8 shooting). Duncan's commitment to stopping Randolph...

Grizzlies' Gasol won DPOY, but is Spurs' Duncan proving to be more worthy?

AT&T Center – Four weeks ago, Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol was named the 2013 NBA Defensive Player of the Year. Gasol and the Grizzlies were defensive juggernauts in the regular season as they won games with their style of play, “grit and grind.” Today, with Gasol’s Grizzlies down 0-2 to the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals, something was...

San Antonio wins Game 2 in OT 93-89: Spurs take 2-0 series lead over Grizzlies

So much for the favored Memphis Grizzlies to take at least one game in San Antonio. The Grizzlies find themselves in an 0-2 hole as the Spurs held on in overtime to win Game 2 93-89. Memphis was the favorite going into this series. Some said that the Spurs had old veterans that could not keep up with Memphis. Looks like that is not the case. Tony Parker had 15 points and a career...

The Spurs took a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference finals with Game 3 on Saturday in Memphis. Duncan opened the extra...

The San Antonio Spurs and Memphis Grizzlies will have two more days to rest and make adjustments heading into Game 3 this Saturday. The Spurs held a practice yesterday and Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan spoke more on the overtime win versus Memphis in Game 2 including Memphis' late rally, and more. No Team USA for Doc

After the Olympics, it was reported that Team USA coach, Mike Krzyzewski was thinking of retiring and that Doc Rivers, along with Gregg Popovich and Doug Collins, was a frontrunner to replace him.   Doc had said that he would be honored to coach the US Olympic team.  Now, it seems that none of the 3 will take over the job as according to SI's Pete Thamel,  Krzyzewski will...

Shootaround: All-NBA

Duncan returns to All-NBA First Team ----- The NBA announced its All-NBA teams Thursday and it looks oddly familiar to the one it had 10 years ago. OK, maybe not that familiar. But familiar (and notably deserved) names have made the list yet again. Kobe Bryant became an All-NBA First Team player for the 11th time in his career and the eighth consecutive year. That was expected...

Grizzlies remain confident heading to Game Two

By all accounts, the Spurs thoroughly routed the Grizzlies in Game One of the Western Conference Finals. The stage looked a bit too big for the first-time conference finalists from Memphis as the team ran into the buzzsaw that is Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs. In Game One, at least, experience won out. It was more than that though because that...
