Celtics Green ...a boston celtics blog.:
It seems that I spent the first half of the summer making
lists. I almost always find this useful
to help organize my thoughts and am amazed how often the exercise pushes me
into considering some aspect or relationship that was obscured before. Lists tend to have an incredibly short
half-life but what follows are some that have persisted, or are newly emerged. Most are rank ordered.
Players most likely to have/create coaching or chemistry
Vitor Faverani (this is unfairly premature but his Euro
history is a red flag)
Players whose trade value is currently negative:
Keith Bogans (will change as expiring contract by
Kris Humphries (see Bogans’ note)
Players relatively unavailable to other teams:
Players with something/much to prove:
Faverani (a current unknown)
Wallace (coming off a career-cratering year
Humphries (overpaid, underutilized in Brooklyn)
Rondo and Sully (major surgery)
Lee and Bradley (off years)
Actually I think I can come up with a need-to-prove scenario
for everyone of the roster except maybe Bogans.
Least likely to be here for 2014-15:
Wallace (if he can raise his player-value to positive)
Greene (also #1 least likely to be here for 2013-14)
Least likely to play in a game in November:
Most likely to spend time in D-league:
Sullinger (rehab assignment)
Players I’d most like to move:
Note that the Wallace, Bogans, Humphries $27M sump don’t
even make the list—selling low almost never a good idea.

Source: Former #Celtic Walter McCarty has agreed to join Brad Stevens staff as assistant coach #CelticsTalk
— Kyle Draper (@kylerdraper) August 21, 2013
As we previously reported, Brad Stevens was looking to former Celtics to fill out his staff. Tonight Kyle Draper reported that the Celtics have added former Celtic Walter McCarty to his staff.
Walter McCarty is most remembered...
The first thing that was mentioned right after the Celtics named Brad Stevens their new coach was whether or not he could handle the mercurial Rajon Rondo. Rondo had just mentioned in an interview that he loved playing for Doc and wanted to play for him. Then Doc went to LA and suddenly, Rondo had a new coach and no one knew how he would react.
One of Stevens' first acts...
Via the Globe:
Entercom Communications, whose WRKO and WEEI stations in the Boston markets have been the radio home for the Boston Celtics since 2005, will no longer broadcast the storied NBA franchise’s games beginning next season. “WEEI has had an incredible run with the Boston Celtics, from being a part of their 17th championship banner to the end of the Big 3 era,” said...
Before Rajon Rondo’s season (and for all intents and purposes, the Celtics season) abruptly ended during a Friday night game in Atlanta in late January, much of the discussion around him centered on his over-hyped assist streak. Remember, the one that saw him continually dish out double-digit assists in consecutive games challenging legendary point guards Magic Johnson and John...
With new head coach Brad Stevens firmly in command, a source close to the Boston Celtics reports the team “desperately” needs an assistant who can handle point guard Rajon Rondo. A coaching wizard frequently compared to John Wooden, Stevens signed a six-year contract worth $22 million to lead Boston on July 3. Ever since Danny Ainge rightfully gutted Boston’s roster, many fans...
You might have to program a new station into your car stereos as the Celtics are leaving WEEI.
"WEEI has had an incredible run with the Boston Celtics, from being a part of their 17th championship banner to the end of the Big 3 era," said Entercom Boston vice president/market manager Jeff Brown in a statement.
"Unfortunately we were unable to come to terms on a new...
Just how bad the Celtics will be this season is subject to debate. The good news for their fans, however, is that the team might not need to remain in a state of mediocrity for very long.
Immediately after the deal was disclosed to send Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Jason Terry to Brooklyn, the knee-jerk reaction was that the Celtics would absolutely stink in 2013-14. Jeff Green...
This season will not only mark the end of the Paul Pierce era in Boston but it will also mark the end of the WEEI era as well. Entercom Communications stations WRKO and WEEI have carried Celtics games since 2005 but they announced today that they will no longer broadcast the franchise's games beginning next season. According to the Globe:
"WEEI has had an incredible...
What the Hell Happened To, is usually all about perseverance. Unheralded guys going the extra mile to make the mighty Boston Celtics. This week's player, Eric Fernsten, epitomized that. His entire career, he never quite felt safe enough about his job but it was always like that for him. It was that way since he began
playing basketball seriously the summer before his...
One of the reasons for the lockout in 2011 was that the small market teams wanted to make sure the big market teams wouldn't have a stranglehold on all the talent with the money they can offer, taxes be damned.
To combat this, language was put in place where teams that are over the luxury tax for a certain number of years in a row or were tax payers for a number of years within...
NBA source familiar with #celtics say team desperately needs another asst coach who can bond with Rondo, someone he can relate to and trust

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
I wonder what else Doc...
Reebok retro’ed one of Shaq’s most popular signature shoes, the “Shaqnosis” this past year, and Sneakernews reports they will be getting a St. Patrick’s Day colorway:
It looks like the Shaqnosis will pick up some holiday cheer in the future, as the sneakers appear to have a “St. Patty’s Day” colorway in the works. The combination is one that makes sense given Shaq’s...
With less than two months until the NBA preseason tips off, the Boston Celtics have become radio nomads.
Entercom Communications announced Tuesday that Celtics games will no longer be carried on their WEEI and WRKO stations after an agreement could not be reached on a new contract. The stations had been the radio home of the Celtics since 2005.

As WEEI continues to circle the drain – everyday new rumors are coming fast and furious, (shutting down the FM signal and going back to AM?) today there was officially another casualty:
The Boston Celtics will no longer be airing on WEEI. From Jeff Brown:
WEEI has had an incredible run with the Boston Celtics, from being a part of their 17th Championship Banner to the end of the...
