Jerseys auctioned to benefit Cardinals Care/14 Fund — Pierre LeBrun (@Real_ESPNLeBrun) January 25, 2013 As ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun details in the above tweet, the jerseys will then be auctioned off to raise funds for the St. Louis Cardinals “Cardinals Care” and the St. Louis Blues “14 Fund” charities. Stan Musial played his entire 22-year career with the St. Louis Cardinals. He was named to 24 All-Star teams (elected twice in 1959, 1960, 1961 and 1962), was the National League’s batting champion seven times, a three-time N.L. MVP, and a three-time World Series champion. He had his #6 retired by the Cardinals, and was a first-ballot Hall of Famer in 1969.

Bob Costas' emotional eulogy for Musial

NBC’s Bob Costas delivered the emotional eulogy for Hall of Famer and St. Louis Cardinals legend Stan “The Man” Musial, who passed away at 92. Musial played for the Cardinals from 1941 to 1963. That’s right — he played for the same team for 22 years. In fact, Musial was so revered in St. Louis, that two statues of him stand outside Busch Stadium. He was considered...

Thousands turn out to pay respects to Musial

ST. LOUIS Thousands of Cardinals fans braved frigid temperatures and long lines to pay their final respects to baseball legend Stan Musial Thursday afternoon. And it would have taken a lot more to keep them from seeing the man that most of them never even had the opportunity to meet. Musial, a Hall of Famer who spent his entire 22-year career with the Cardinals, died Saturday...

Big crowds turn out for Stan Musial visitation

The entrance to the Cathedral Basilica looked more like that of a St. Louis Cardinals game on Thursday, just the way Stan Musial would have liked it. Thousands of fans turned out for Musial's public visitation at the ornate Roman Catholic church, many of them bundled up against the bitter cold in red Cardinals jackets. Musial, a 24-time All-Star who remained a beloved figure...

A Stan Musial Memorial Video

Friend of the program and 101 ESPN producer Chris Files made this yesterday from the memorial service of Stan Musial.  I though it was good, so I'm posting it here.

Thousands attend Musial visitation

Standing outside the Cathedral Basilica as thousands filed inside to pay their respects, Stan Musial's grandson was thankful. ''Just seeing all this,'' Brian Schwarze said, ''and I got to play catch with him.'' ''I mean, he was my grandfather. But I really do believe I'm starting to understand somewhat what he meant to the whole community...

To honor Stan Musial, Blues will don Musial #6 jerseys for warmups

In one of the classiest moves of the year, the St. Louis Blues will wear Musial #6 jerseys for warmups before their game against the Minnesota Wild to honor St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Famer Stan “The Man” Musial.  Musial died on January 19th, and was a three-time NL MVP and a seven-time batting champion.  The Blues also took out a full-page ad in the St. Louis-Post Dispatch...

Musial celebrated during funeral service

ST. LOUIS - A stranger approached Stan Musial's grandson Andrew Edmonds during the Hall of Famer's public viewing Thursday, with tears running down his face. "Your grandpa's best attribute," the man said, "was that he made nobodies feel like somebodies." The thought was shared by many Saturday as friends, family, former teammates and many who never...

St. Louis Blues Wear Stan Musial’s Name on Practice Jerseys in Honor of Cardinals Great (Photo)

In a display of St. Louis pride, the Blues paid tribute to one of their city’s most beloved athletes on Sunday. The team wore Stan Musial‘s name and number on the back of their jerseys during pregame warm-ups in memory of the Hall of Fame outfielder. Musial, who played 22 season for the St. Louis Cardinals, died last Saturday at age 92. The sweaters will then be autographed by...

Stan Musial remembered during funeral Mass

Stan Musial was remembered as a Hall of Famer on and off the field during a 2-hour funeral Mass. Broadcaster Bob Costas, his voice cracking at times, pointed out during Saturday's lengthy tribute that in 92 years of life, Musial never let anyone down. Among those in attendance were baseball Commissioner Bud Selig, former St. Louis standout Albert Pujols and Hall of Famers Bob...

Bob Costas gave a moving eulogy for Stan Musial (Video)

Stan Musial was an exceptional ballplayer and by many accounts exceptional human being. It was fitting that he was eulogized in an exceptional manner. Veteran sportscaster and St. Louis native Bob Costas spoke for over 19 minutes at the funeral for Musial Saturday, a week after the Baseball Hall of Famer died at the age of 92. Costas says he spoke at the request of Musial, who asked...

Riding the Pine: Saying Goodbye to a Legend and the Connect to Albert Pujols

It’s been a week since St. Louis (and the Baseball World) lost Stan “the Man” Musial. I told Russ when I found out that I wasn’t surprised (his health had been going south for a while) but I was in shock. A week later, and it’s still a little surreal. Russ did a good job already looking at what Stan meant to baseball. I’m going to tell everyone what he meant to St...

That One Time When I Witnessed a Vintage Earl Weaver Eruption … and Met Stan “The Man”

For the first time in history, the Baseball Hall of Fame lost two of its members on the same day. Last weekend, former Oriole manager Earl Weaver and former St. Louis Cardinal great Stan Musial both passed away, and memories of the two washed over those that had followed the careers of the pair of icons. I had seen Weaver manage and had met Musial and both events left an impression...
