Within the last week, St. Louis Cardinals 38-year old disabled ace Chris Carpenter revealed to Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he hoped to make one last rehab attempt and return to the Cardinals as a possible member of the beleaguered bullpen. On Friday afternoon at Busch Stadium, Carpenter took a huge step in his bid to once again defy all of the odds and return to the Cardinals. Carpenter threw 70-pitches with his full arsenal of pitches and was pain free. Not only did Carpenter throw a great bullpen session on Friday, but he also revealed a full head of curly hair for the first time Cardinals fans since coming to the organization in 2004. If Chris Carpenter threw 70 pitches without pain today, with this hair, he should never never ever cut it again. twitter.com/KSDKSports/sta… — KSDK Sports (@KSDKSports) May 10, 2013 While the curly hair is fun to see and is certainly a different side of Carpenter, the fact that he is fighting through a debilitating inj...

The Shelby Miller lists

As pretty much the entire baseball world knows by now, on Friday night, St. Louis Cardinals rookie right-hander Shelby Miller allowed a leadoff broken bat single before retiring the next 27 Colorado Rockies in order. I asked researcher Tom Orf to help put this almost-perfect game into perspective. St. Louis Cardinals, 0 walks, 13+ strikeouts Pitcher Date Tm Opp...

Carpenter’s improbable comeback escalates

On Friday, St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter threw a 70-pitch assortment, pain-free.

Healthy competition strengthens Cardinals' starting rotation

ST. LOUIS Early Saturday morning, Adam Wainwright met with his catcher, Yadier Molina, and his pitching coach, Derek Lilliquist, to discuss his upcoming start against the Colorado Rockies. "All right, I'm just going to throw 95 mile-per-hour fastballs all day," the St. Louis Cardinals ace said in jest. It was just another Shelby Miller reference. Fewer than 24 hours...

St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Shelby Miller pitches virtual Perfect Game

Shelby Miller completes the game with 1 hitCredit: Jeff Roberson/AP Twenty-seven up, twenty-seven down. The definition of a perfect game.  Unfortunately, if a leadoff single preceded the 27 outs, the record books won’t record it. Shelby Miller of the St. Louis Cardinals gave up a clean single to Eric Young Jr. (nobody in the crowd even batted an eyelash at the time), then did...

Wainwright leads Cardinals against Colorado at Busch

(AP) -- St. Louis Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright was off his game the last time out. The right-hander might not need his best stuff given how the Colorado Rockies are struggling at the plate. Wainwright and the Cardinals go for their ninth win in 10 games Saturday when this series continues at Busch Stadium. Looking to rebound from his first defeat of the season, a 2-1 loss to...

Shelby Miller: Ace On The Rise

Shelby Miller continues to dominate, 7 starts into 2013 Friday, May 10th, 2013, that will be a date that some 37,800 St. Louis Cardinals fans at Busch Stadium will remember for quite a while because young, talented Shelby Miller flat out dominated the Colorado Rockies last night. A leadoff single in the top of the first inning to Eric Young Jr. would be the only base runner...

Cardinals beat Rockies 3-0 on Wainwright gem

ST. LOUIS (AP) Adam Wainwright carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning and was one out from the St. Louis Cardinals' second straight one-hitter over the suddenly punchless Colorado Rockies in a 3-0 victory Saturday. The Rockies had been hitless in 49 consecutive at-bats before Nolan Arenado lined a clean hit to center field with one out in the eighth. Eric Young led off Friday...

Cardinals' Miller one-hits Rockies

Shelby Miller gave up a leadoff single then retired 27 in a row for his first career complete game, leading the St. Louis Cardinals to a 3-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies. Eric Young Jr. had a line drive hit to right field to start the game for the Rockies but Miller (5-2) gave up nothing else in his first shutout. The right-hander struck out Young to end it with his 13th K...

The downside of a top farm system: Part one

The St. Louis Cardinals may be approaching a 40-man roster logjam as top prospects are ready for the major leagues.

Cardinals Blogger Day 2013

A couple weeks ago I had the fortune of attending a wonderful event at Busch Stadium thanks to UCB and the Cardinals organization. Even though the Cardinals did not win that day, this was one of the best times I’ve ever had at a baseball game. This is because the assembled bloggers got to have a Q&A with Cardinals President Bill Dewitt III and GM John Mozeliak. I found out...

Yadier Molina throws the bat head at the ball … literally

Well … it worked.

Cardinals 3, Rockies 0

St. Louis Cardinals: Shelby Miller throw complete game shutout in 3-0 win over Colorado

The St. Louis Cardinals were expecting to see one of the best offensive teams in baseball this season as the Colorado Rockies came into Busch Stadium Friday night with the second most runs scored in all of baseball. Cardinals' rookie starter Shelby Miller didn't care. He carved the Rockies up in a dominating performance in the Cardinals 3-0 win. Miller was absolutely outstanding...

In Bizarro World, where the Cardinals are always good

It was late when I conjured up this post, but to put things into context, this is the episode of Star Trek where Kirk and friends get sucked into a mirror universe and evil Spock has a goatee.  The picture is particularly funny because George Takei, who is really funny and whom I love because of his internet presence, is so incredibly gay that his flirting with Uhura makes no sense...

WWE Stars at Cardinals Games, Laurinaitis Reps at Kobashi Retirement, More

- Mick Foley and The Bella Twins will be appearing at the May 18th St. Louis Cardinals vs. Milwaukee Brewers baseball game from Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
