St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny had quite a debut as Major League Baseball manager in 2012. Matheny led the Cardinals to within one game of a World Series appearance in his first season as the Cardinals' skipper. While Matheny won in a big way on the field and in the dugout in 2012, he lost a lot financially recently thanks to a court decision that did not go his way.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that Matheny recently lost a court case pending from a real estate venture gone bad and could owe $4.4 million or more.
Matheny got involved in various real estate ventures near the end of his playing career and continued to make various investments and business decisions once retired. An investment made just before the financial crisis went sour, leaving Matheny and his wife, along with partners, to foot a large bill that they eventually stopped paying.
The recent ruling will likely cause Matheny to pay most of the money back soon, which he told the Post-Dispat...
