St. Louis Cardinals: No more Pete Kozma please

(via TurnersTwist.com) I am glad to see Mike Matheny using Daniel Descalso at short today. In fact, I think it is time to use him and another player (I will tell you who in a minute) even more often. Pete Kozma just doesn’t cut it. I am tired of hearing that Kozma’s defense is why we continue to have to watch in agony every plate appearance. Quite frankly, his defense...

Preview: Cards seek positive end to rough road trip in Cincy

The St. Louis Cardinals began a daunting 11-game trip leading the NL Central. They'll enter the final stretch of that trek hoping not to lose any more ground in the division standings. After snapping their longest slide of the season, the Cardinals try to continue their recent success against the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night. St. Louis (63-44) held a 2 12-game division...

Ryan Jackson hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th to win the game for Memphis. Boone Whiting was solid over 5 innings allowing 5 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, and striking out 1. Victor...

Should Shelby Miller be considered favorite for NL Rookie of the Year?

(via TurnersTwist.com) Take away one mistake, a Joey Voto home run, from last nights pitching performance and you can say Shelby Miller was dealing it. Through the first five innings, Miller struck out eight of the 15 outs he recorded and allowed just two hits and two walks. He looked liked he had command of his fastball and was getting hitters to chase his off speed. Even though...

How will the St. Louis Cardinals fare with Yadier Molina on the DL?

Tony Cruz (AP Photo/Tom Gannam)   When the St. Louis Cardinals dropped both games of a doubleheader and the division lead to the Pirates Tuesday, it was not the worst thing that happened to the club that day.  The most troubling problem was when Cards catcher Yadier Molina’s sprained knee flared up and he left the game, ending up on the 15-day disabled list.  While the Cardinals...

St. Louis Cardinals bats break out in a big way

(via TurnersTwist.com) The St. Louis Cardinals broke out of their slump in a big way last night collecting 17 hits with 5 of them being doubles. Jon Jay, Tony Cruz, and Matt Holliday continued their post all-star break rampage getting 2, 3, and 2 hits respectively. By doing so the three have solidified themselves as the best (healthy) hitters post All-Star game. Holliday is...

Recap: Cardinals have another big game, drub Reds 13-3

CINCINNATI -- David Freese set the tone with a bases-loaded double in the first inning, and Daniel Descalso hit two of the Cardinals' three homers on Friday night as St. Louis pulled away to a 13-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. The Cardinals have emerged from a deep hitting slump by scoring 13 runs in each of their last two games. It's the first time this season they...

Cingrani stands tall against Cardinals pressure

CINCINNATI The Elias Sports Bureau figured out that if the St. Louis Cardinals were to go hitless in their next 100 at-bats with runners in scoring position they would still lead Major League Baseball in that category. They could go 0-for-200 and still lead the National League. Suffice to say, the Cardinals put a lot of pressure on opposing pitchers and that pressure gets to a...

Preview: Cards try to pile up runs for a third straight game

After nearly a week's worth of offensive futility, all finally seems right with the St. Louis Cardinals. They face a stern test trying to pile up runs for a third straight game Saturday night against Tony Cingrani and the Cincinnati Reds. The Cardinals (64-44) fell out of first place in the NL Central during a season-worst seven-game losing streak in which they totaled 10 runs...

The 1944 St Louis Browns; the classic example of a blue collar team

Few people know the St Louis Browns franchise started in 1901 as the Milwaukee Brewers, before moving to St Louis for the 1902 season. Prior to 1944, the Browns had finished in 2nd place just twice. This was a franchise that struggled for years, because the better players wanted to play for the Cardinals, the team that was known as a winner. The Browns, who moved to Baltimore before...
