The Scores Report:
Video: Hall of Fame Hopefuls; Price Fielder Coming off an era where it seemed like everyone could be a slugger, it’s refreshing to get back to a game with balance. Prince Fielder is one of these authentic players that bring us back to a simpler time with his enormous frame and natural power. His father, Cecil Fielder, was one of the great power hitters of his day and I remember him as a kid, and it’s pretty amazing to watch his son live up to and then surpass his impressive legacy. It’s must be difficult for some to live up to the hype surrounding a famous name, but Prince Fielder has handled it beautifully. The numbers speak for themselves beginning with his seven years with the Milwaukee Brewers followed by his new gig with the Detroit Tigers. With his father, they are the only father-son combination to have hit 50 home runs in the majors. Since Prince Fielder’s first full season where he hit 28 home runs, he has slammed 30 or more dingers for 6 consecutive seasons, with seasons ...

Prince Fielder homered, Rick Porcello pitched six solid innings and the Detroit Tigers bounced back Wednesday night with an 8-5 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
Detroit allowed 23 hits in an 11-4 loss to the White Sox on Tuesday, but it was the Tigers who did the slugging early on in this game. Fielder lined a two-run shot to right field in the first inning for his 16th homer...
Carl Nichols, 1988 Donruss
I didn’t know who Carl Nichols was until today but I know that I’m sure as hell not going to mess with him. That’s the same look that he gives his kids when one of them tries to take Dad’s big piece of chicken. ***** please.

I’ve been saying for the past three years that Justin Verlander is over-rated and that he isn’t even the best pitcher on his own staff—let alone the best pitcher in baseball like his most avid cheerleaders in the media have been contending.
If you’ll notice he always seems to have one or two “meltdown” innings (like the Rangers Derek Holland)—especially against tougher...
DETROIT -- Justin Verlander didn't have his best stuff Tuesday night, but for most of the game, he did a balancing act that would have made Nik Wallenda proud.
The ending, though, was something that no one wanted to see.
Verlander had struggled all night, allowing eight hits and a walk in the first seven innings, but most of the runners had come with two out and he had limited...
49-39, 1st place, 3.5 games up on Cle.
The Tigers head home for 6 against the White Sox and Rangers after a successful 7-4 road trip that ended with the club taking 3 of 4 from Cle. The White Sox are not good. We gotta win the series.
A few stars from last night’s game, other than VMart.

Max Scherzer didn't care that his record stayed spotless. All that mattered to him was that Detroit's improved.

Rick Porcello (Tigers) vs. White Sox
1. Of his last 10 starts, Porcello has surrendered three or less runs seven times. In that span, he allowed zero or one run five times.
Chicago closer Kevin Gregg may be on the Detroit Tigers’ radar as the July 31 trade deadline approaches. But what about starter Matt Garza, who, like Gregg, will be a free agent after this season?

Your browser does not support iframes. You might have to wipe your eyes to actually believe what you see. Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder, two of the most imposing hitters in baseball, actually pulled off a double steal during the Detroit Tigers’ 9-6 loss to the Cleveland Indians on Sunday. Sure, they got some help [...]
Some years ago, when they were up-and-coming instead of bad, Yuniesky Betancourt and Jose Lopez were both Seattle Mariners. The Mariners are well known for their advertising campaigns, and in one they pitched Betancourt and Lopez as the “double play twins,” middle infielders who did everything together, both on and off the field. Betancourt and Lopez, at the time, had a lot in...
