Stanford QB supreme/BMOC Andrew Luck has made it clear how stupid he believes the “suck for Luck” campaign is. And I’m not sure how much I’ll ever believe that NFL teams are really even intentionally sucking in order to take the most sought after signal caller in college football.

I think the sucking just comes naturally. That said, we were among the first to explore this concept back in the offseason. Here’s our initial study in June.

But a lot has changed since then so let’s look at who’s #1 in the race for the #1 pick in the NFL Draft derby.

1. Indianapolis Colts (0-7) They have one more loss than every team in the NFL, but that’s not the only reason they lead off my “powerless ranking.” The long term health of franchise QB Peyton Manning is very dire, even if you happen to hear better news in the short term. Although what definitive good news have we heard about his health? It’s also painfully obvious that Curtis Painter, who did his college football just up the road at Purdue, is not the answer.

They’re #1 with a bullet after that 62-7 thrashing at the hands of New Orleans on national televison

2. Jacksonville Jaguars (1-5)

I know, I know they just took Blaine Gabbert in this past draft; and at a very high pick in the first round. But look at Carolina- they took a signal caller very high in the draft in successive years, and it seems to have worked out pretty well for them so far. Not so much for Jimmy Claussen, but that’s another story.

3. Miami Dolphins (0-6)

The overall consensus favorite, I disagree because I believe there are worse starting QBs in the league than Michigan Man Chad Henne. He’s no Tom Brady for sure, but do you really believe the ‘Fins have the worst talent in the league to truly finish 0-16 and in the #1 slot. Make no mistake the “winner” of the Suck for Luck Sweepstakes will need to finish 1-15 or 0-16.

4. St. Louis Rams (0-6)

No way they draft a QB first. Sam Bradford is their future. Only reason I have them up this high is because they’re just that atrocious and might get the #1 pick

5. Minnesota Vikings (1-6)

See my JAX entry above, with the analogy to Carolina. Replace Blaine Gabbert with Christian Ponder

6. Arizona Cardinals (1-5)

Is Kevin Kolb really working out? I think they need to use their first pick on some help blocking. Did you see how the Pittsbrugh DL made the Cards’ OL their prison ***** this week?

7. Philadelphia Eagles (2-4)

Threw them in as a joke; to poke fun at their nightmare season.
