Everyone here already knows what the outcome of the game was last night. That’s going to be covered a few more times, I think. So, lets have a look at the second most popular part of the Super Bowl (or for some people, the most popular): The commercials.
Number one on my list was, of course, the Doritos “Man’s Best Friend” ad. It continued the arc of the better commercials beings those that shill Doritos.
Next up is the M&Ms “Just My Shell”. This one introduced a new character, the brown M&M (aka Van Halen’s nemesis) with a cameo from the Red M&M.
The last of my top 3 is the Volkswagon “Dog Strikes Back”. The dog exercising to be able to chase down the Beetle was fun, and the clip at the end with Vader was good. I’ll say last year’s ad with little Vader was much better.
After those three, the brunt of the commercials were pretty similar in quality. The Chevrolet Apocalypse ad was OK, mostly because of the Twinkie reference (thank you Family Guy). Bed Light’s “Weego” was cute, but by that time Bud had beaten everyone over the head with ads for Bud Light Platinum, so it was lost in the shuffle some. The much talked about Ferris Bueller ad was a solid eh. Nothing special, and could have been much more.
And, lets not forget the unpopular ads. H&M with Beckham in his skivvies, the Fiat 500 Abarth, Telefloral, Pepsi with King John of Elton, and of course Go Daddy. At some point, those Go Daddy had have to be stopped. They’re terrible. And no, Danica Patrick & Jillian Michaels are not that attractive, but are very annoying.
