West Virginia wide receiver Tavon Austin is the talk of the NFL Draft, and I can only wonder if he’d be the #1 pick if he was a bit taller. Austin still is coveted, and one place draft experts see him going is to the Jets at #9 if he’s still on the board.  Austin while in New York participating in an NFL 60 event, admitted that Jets head coach Rex Ryan “has a plan for how to use him” according to the Star Ledger. “He made a little joke, ‘We might throw you on the defensive side, a couple plays,’ but it was everything good,” Austin said today at the NFL’s Play 60 Youth Football Festival with several of the NFL Draft’s top prospects. “He said he had a plan for me. I talked to the offensive coordinator (Marty Mornhinweg), and they said they like players like me who can bring big-play ability there.” Austin who had over 2,700 all-purpose yards for West Virginia last year will definitely get a chance to display his versatility for whoever drafts him. “I had a visit with them, so I was in their facility. They put me on the board and everything, (to) see how smart I was. For the most part everything went well,” Austin said. “I met everybody, and they pretty much said they like me a lot, and hopefully we can make it happen.”

With the 2013 NFL Draft just a few hours away, speculation has run rampant on what player will end up where. West Virginia wide receiver Tavon Austin is one of the more explosive players in this draft and whoever gets him automatically get a game-changer for their offense. Austin opened up a bit about the draft process [...]

Initial Reaction – New York Jets First Round Selections – DEFENSE!

Are we so sure that Rex Ryan is a lame duck coach who has no influence in Florham Park anymore? Tonight felt an awful lot like many previous drafts with Rex Ryan as the head coach, as the New York Jets selected a defensive lineman in the first round for the third straight year and added a cornerback in the first round for the second time in three years. The results were surprising...

Jets love of Ryan Nassib, a smokescreen for Tavon Austin?

NFL rumors on draft day are equivalent to a swine flu epidemic, because the media makes a big deal about tiny incidents or quotes from executives and scouts that turn out to be nothing significant. However, the latest draft rumors involving the Buffalo Bills, involves a standoff between the Bills either taking Ryan Nassib with the 8th overall pick, or allowing the New York Jets two...

That, or he and New York Jets general manager John Idzik share a brain.Four picks after taking cornerback Dee Milliner with their first of two first-round selections, the Jets took another defender in Missouri defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson.Richardson, who led the SEC in tackles in 2012 and tallied a game-high 14...

Idzik on the Draft: Talent will Trump Need

Bill Cowher not giving up on Mark Sanchez

Former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher isn’t ready to give up on New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez, and says the signal caller proved he can win with a good supporting cast. “There has been so much transition going on there,”

2013 NFL Draft Rumors: New York Jets looking at QB Geno Smith?

West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith was not the first quarterback selected in the 2013 NFL Draft as many pundits suggested. As the second-round gets underway this evening, the prolific college quarterback remains on the board. Are the New York Jets seriously looking at possibly drafting Smith in the second? According to Jets beat writer Manish Mehta on Twitter, they are giving him...

Jets get defensive (again) in first round

New York, NY - The New York Jets haven't drafted an offensive player in the first round since they took some guy named Mark Sanchez back in 2009.Remember him?Despite new management and the league's 30th ranked offense, the Jets were back to their old tricks on Thursday night, taking defensive players Dee Milliner and Sheldon Richardson with both of their first round selections...

Jets draft CB Dee Milliner, DT Sheldon Richardson in the first round

The first round of the NFL Draft is in the books.  The New York Jets come away with two defensive players, creating some criticism from fans at the lack of offensive playmakers. If Gang Green was considering WR Tavon Austin, he was taken away as a possibility, as the St. Louis Rams made a trade with the Buffalo Bills, to draft at 8 for Austin. The Jets attempt to "replace...

2013 NFL Draft: New NY Jets GM, Same Questionable Picks; Experts and Fans React

photo via Adam Hunger/Reuters Entering tonight’s NFL Draft, I had few expectations for the New York Jets. I barely followed any mock draft analysis because I always consider it to be useless.  Aside from the first three picks, and that’s a stretch, it’s extremely rare that NFL insiders, experts, pundits or whomever, accurately predict how the chips will fall.  And the GMs...

Jets get Geno Smith

The New York Jets selected West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith with the 39th overall pick in this year’s draft. I would expect Smith to come in right away and have a chance to start.  The only player I can see beating out Smith for the Jets’ starting job is David Garrard. The one problem with the Jets drafting Smith is that if Rex Ryan gets fired after this season and a new...

Leaving The Island: Why Trading Darrelle Revis Was The Right Decision For The New York Jets

I know that Jets fans are feeling blue that they have traded away their best player but trading Revis was the right move for the future of the New York Jets. Darrelle Revis is a great talent but he was holding the New York Jets franchise hostage with his poor attitude and outlandish contract demands. The Jets were not going anywhere this year with Darrelle Revis so it makes...
