Hockey players know when they're around greatness. At least Kris Draper did in 2002. After his Detroit Red Wings won the Stanley Cup that year, the longtime center made sure to get a couple autographed team jerseys.
He's glad he did.
"I'm framing those and holding onto those," he told Sporting News. "As of Monday, they're going to be worth a little more."
On Monday, three more of those signatures will belong to Hall of Famers. Former Red Wings Steve Yzerman, Brett Hull and Luc Robitaille will join long-time New York Rangers defenseman Brian Leetch in being inducted to the Hockey Hall of Fame for their contribution as players.
New Jersey Devils general manager and team president Lou Lamoriello will be inducted as a builder.
And Lamoriello, as much as anyone, can appreciate the team Wings GM Ken Holland built for the 2001-02 season. Chances are, there will never be another one built like it again.
