A 65-year old female Ohio State Buckeyes fan was pulled over while driving through Tennessee on her way home from Columbus because officers mistook her bumper sticker for marijuana paraphernalia.
Jonas-Boggioni and her husband, Giorgio Boggioni, 66, of Plano, Tex were pulled over just east of Memphis, along I-40, and greeted by two black SUVs with officers wearing “body armor and guns,” Jonas-Boggioni told The Columbus Dispatch.
“What are you doing with a marijuana sticker on your bumper?” one of the officers asked.
Jonas-Boggioni and her husband had to explain the meaning of the Ohio State sticker, which is given to OSU players for good plays or games. To further illustrate the point, Boggioni stepped out of the car to show his 2002 national-championship sweatshirt, one “complete with a Buckeye leaf.”
Before letting the couple go without a ticket, officers told them that they should remove the Ohio State sticker from their car. “I said, ‘You mean in Tennessee?’” Jones-Boggioni said. “No, permanently,” the officers replied.
The couple drove away…with bumper stick still intact.
