Eventually all good things must come to an end, right? If you need proof just ask Detroit Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer. It's been nine months since he last lost a game. Yeah, that's right. I used the past tense. It's been a heck of season for Scherzer this year--13-0 record and a 3.06 ERA. While Tigers fans were likely dreaming that he would manage to go undefeated, the sad truth is that someone, someday would beat him. That day was Saturday and it came courtesy of Derek Holland and the Texas Rangers. Holland scatted five hits and five walks over seven innings while striking out seven and allowing one run to lead the Rangers to a 7-1 win. The victory stopped a three game skid where the offense appeared to forget how to hit, scoring a total of just four runs in all three games. For Holland it was the third win in his last four starts and could not come at a better time with the rotation beat up by injuries and the youngsters starting to struggle. After g...

MLB All-Star Game: American League starting pitcher

A big question for an All-Star manager going into the midsummer classic is who will be the starting pitcher? I will tell you why Jim Leyland won’t have to look that far to find his man. We are only a few days away from the MLB’s 84th annual All-Star game which will be held in Citi Field, New York City, New York, which is the home of the New York Mets. One of the biggest question...

Tigers' Scherzer emerges among AL's best

Max Scherzer finally lost Saturday night in his final start before the All-Star break, but that rough outing did little to detract from what the Detroit right-hander has accomplished over the last year. On a staff that includes former MVP Justin Verlander, Scherzer has earned the most attention lately. At 28, he's in the prime of his career, and whether he starts Tuesday'...

Scherzer has 1st loss since Sept. 23

Max Scherzer's unbeaten run ended Saturday night when the Texas Rangers tagged the Detroit All-Star with his first loss of the season, defeating the Tigers 7-1. Scherzer (13-1) was trying to become the first pitcher in the majors to start 14-0 since Roger Clemens in 1986. He allowed four runs and eight hits in six innings, walking two and striking out six. It was Scherzer&...

Max Scherzer named the AL starter for the All-Star Game

Moments ago Tigers RHP Max Scherzer was named the AL starter for the MLB All-Star Game at Citi Field in New York Tuesday. After posting a 13-1 record with a 3.19 ERA and 152 strikeouts, Scherzer seemed like the likely choice for manager Jim Leyland to start things out for the American League. Scherzer’s start also marks the second straight year that a Tigers pitcher starts the...

Matt Harvey, Max Scherzer tabbed to start 2013 All-Star Game

As expected, Matt Harvey of the New York Mets and Max Scherzer of the Detroit Tigers have been selected as the starting pitchers for the 2013 All-Star Game. Both guys are having remarkable seasons and have fully earned the right to start the game Tuesday night at Citi Field in New York. Harvey will be just the 11th pitcher to start the All-Star Game in his home park. National League...

Harvey, Scherzer will start ASG

Mets ace Matt Harvey will start Tuesday night's All-Star Game on his home mound at New York's Citi Field, and the Detroit Tigers' Max Scherzer will open for the American League. Harvey will be the first pitcher from the host team to start an All-Star Game since Houston's Roger Clemens in 2004 and just the 11th overall. NL manager Bruce Bochy's starting lineup...

51-42, 1st place, 1.5 games ahead of Cleveland. OK, that didn’t go so well. I look at it as Scherzer losing 4-1, let down considerably by his teammates. (Is Alburquerque even worth mentioning? No.) The bright spots would seem to be Phil Coke (the inevitable response to being singled out for criticism in a game post – guess we need to keep it up, guys) and an RBI from Hernan Perez...

Fantasy Baseball All-Star Break Rankings - Pitchers & Catchers

Max Scherzer is the clear cut favorite for the AL Cy Young Award, but in the NL its a tight race between Adam Wainwright and Clayton Kershaw. Wainwright is getting more run support, leading to more W and if he reaches 20, then there is no debate. Wainwright also has walked 20 less batters in 1.1 more innings pitched, and by 20 less batters I mean he has walked 15 batters all season...

Harvey, Scherzer named starters for All-Star Game

Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - New York Mets ace Matt Harvey and Detroit Tigers right-hander Max Scherzer have been selected as the starting...

Matt Harvey and Max Scherzer named starting pitchers for MLB-All Star Game, starting lineups announced

Matt Harvey of the hometown Mets and Max Scherzer of the Detroit Tigers will be the MLB All-Star Game starting pitchers as NL manager Bruce Bochy and AL manager Jim Leyland announced their decisions Monday. Neither choice came out of nowhere as Harvey has gone 7-2 with a 2.35 ERA so far this season all while leading [...]

Matt Harvey and ditching pitcher wins

In case you haven’t been watching a lot of ESPN lately, and I don’t blame you if you haven’t, Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Max Scherzer is 13-1, before the All Star Break, one of the best pre-break records in years. Meanwhile in Queens, Matt Harvey is 7-2. Harvey’s ERA is 2.35.  Scherzer’s is 3.19. Harvey’s FIP is 2.17. Scherzer’s is 2.68. Their strikeout rates...
