Texas Tech and Kansas State have something in common. They both frustrated Geno Smith and soundly beat West Virginia. The Red Raiders are not relying on their offense to put points on the board.  No, their defense is making some noise as they are ranked in the Top 10 nationally and number one in the Big 12. Kansas State has the nation’s overall best quarterback in Collin Klein.  He can beat you throwing or running the football and has finally breathed life back into the Kansas State football program.  This should be an instant classic. Bold Prediction #1: “Optimus” Klein will not be denied.  Sure Texas Tech’s defense is ranked 7th in the country in total defense and yes, they are tops in the Big 12 in defense, but they haven’t ran into a machine like Collin Klein.  Klein has completed over 70 percent of his passes, thrown for 10 touchdowns with only two interceptions.  Where he is most dangerous, is running the zone read option play.  He is second on the team in rushing with 551 yard...

College football week 9: Tailgater picks of the week

The chit-chat this week revolves, primarily, around who should be numbers two through five behind Alabama.  It’s sort of moot at this point seeing as how such granularity means nothing in week 9.  But arguing about college football is almost as much as watching college football.  Also reported this week was Tyrann Mathieu’s drug bust, but anyone who didn’t know Honey Badger...

Texas Tech-Kansas St. Preview

Leading the way with both his arm and legs, Collin Klein has Kansas State on the verge of its first 8-0 start in 13 seasons. Texas Tech's Seth Doege, however, may make that no easy feat. With both quarterbacks looking to boost their Heisman Trophy resumes, the fourth-ranked Wildcats square off against the No. 15 Red Raiders in a Big 12 showdown Saturday in Manhattan. Klein...

Brendan's Heisman Ballot: Week 9

We've had a one-horse Heisman race for more than a month, and Week 9 is no different...other than the fact that the horse changed. After a dominant victory over West Virginia Collin Klein has vaulted himself to the top of the ballot and relegated Geno Smith to the list of "also rans." Maybe Jimmy was right when he told me not to give this thing away in September. ...

Texas Tech at Kasas State: Three Bold Predictions

Texas Tech and Kansas State have something in common. They both frustrated Geno Smith and soundly beat West Virginia. The Red Raiders are not relying on their offense to put points on the board.  No, their defense is making some noise as they are ranked in the Top 10 nationally and number one in the Big 12. Kansas State has the nation’s overall best quarterback in Collin Klein...

My Week 8 College Football Rankings

Notre Dame almost fell to a tough BYU team, Ohio State held off Purdue in OT and LSU was able to hold off a good Texas A&M squad.  Also in a Heisman showdown, Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein out dueled WVU quarterback Geno Smith  throwing for 323 yards, 3 touchdowns and only 2 incompletions.  Smith, who has looked like the Heisman favorite, did not look good against...

2012 Bloguin Heisman Poll Week Eight

Week eight of the college football season saw a battle between the top two Heisman candidates. Collin Klein and his Kansas State Wildcats traveled to Morgantown to face Geno Smith and his West Virginia Mountaineers. When the dust settled, it was Klein and his guys that stood tall winning in a 55-14 rout. How far would Smith fall and how high would Klein rise based on this head to...

Hodge-podge group of players propels No. 4 K-State

The star quarterback used to be a wide receiver, and the top wide receiver used to be a quarterback. There are junior college players from the most out-of-the-way places imaginable, and Division I transfers getting a fresh start. Small-town high school stars from the Heartland, and a motley collection of talent overlooked by most of college football's marquee programs. This...

Maxwell Momentum Week 8 Review | Week 9 Preview

Week 8 Maxwell Award Elite Against a West Virginia team who was out for revenge, Kansas State QB Collin Klein hushed the Mountaineers with one of his best games of his career. Klein, our Maxwell Award Player of the Week, was nearly perfect completing 19 out of his 21 passes for 323 yards and three touchdowns. On the ground Klein rushed for 41 yards and four touchdowns clinching...

To vie for BCS title, K-State needs style points

KANSAS CITY, Mo. It's funny: Kansas State wins a ton of football games, but it doesn't win a lot of beauty pageants. The pastel-blazer crowd has never fully embraced the Wildcats, for whatever reason. Which is odd, considering that their fans will walk across hot coals to watch them in person and their coach ranks among the best to ever slap on a headset. You see the No...

Week 9 Preview and Picks

Life is good for the Oregon Duck Things we learned in Week 8? Don’t ever doubt the Ducks. Oregon laid a giant shellacking on the Sun Devils Thursday night. Not sure if anyone saw that coming, but it appears that Oregon is just toying with opponents in the 2nd half. Difficult to see how anyone in the Pac-12 is explosive enough to stay with them. We also learned that West Virgina...
