It’s pretty well a given that no one goes to a badminton tournament thinking a fight will break out, so you can imagine how stunned the spectators were when two players competing in the Canada Open 2013 final came to blows following the change of ends after the match’s first game. The combatants—Bodin Issara and Maneepong Jongjit—were former doubles partners, until Issara dissolved the partnership in January to take care of his sick mother, only to return to competition a few short months later. The trouble starting when the two started jawing at each other after the opening game. Issara claims Jongjit hit him with a racquet, which prompted Issara to chase down his former partner and start wailing on him until officials pulled them apart… The Badminton World Federation (BWF) is investigating the incident, and has handed out a black card and disqualification to Issara and his partner Pakkawat Vilailak, which doesn’t seem very fair to Vilailak when you think about it (via SLAM Sports)… “The men’s doubles final ended … with a black card being issued to Thailand pair, Bodin Issara and Pakkawat Vilailak, who were disqualified,” the BWF said in a statement on Monday. “The events surrounding the conclusion of this match will be thoroughly investigated by the BWF… and this matter will be referred to the Disciplinary Committee.” At least now the few fans in the audience can use the line “I went to a fight and a badminton game broke out.” The post Thai badminton player Bodin Issara attacks former partner at Canada Open 2013 appeared first on Last Angry Fan.
