THAT WINNING MENTALITY.

STILL can't say I feel great about our pass rush situation, but on the whole, top to bottom we're a MUCH more stable team than we were last year. Thing is, little by little the media is talking about this roster far more objectively and making fewer less and less accurate snarky remarks http://www.contracostatimes.com/breaking-news/ci_23710045/nfl-camp-oakland-raiders-training-camp-roster-scouting .

The pundits can talk all they like about $$$ vs. $, but the game isn't played by wallets, and the mission is to rebuild not to refinance. So long as the roster is made up of hungry players, and Coach is telling them that their job is to win and that winners will play, this team has shot at surprising people.

No one is even expecting playoffs this year, but Coach should still use the words Super Bowl when addressing his players in Training Camp. The idea isn't to get outsiders to take the team seriously, it's to focus the team on how seriously they should take themselves. Whether it's a realistic goal or not, Coach's job is to get his team working toward it. 

I recall a time when the Patriots and Colts were bottom feeders. Nobody gave them a chance until they changed their culture. Prior to 1999 nobody thought much of the Eagles either. You build a team from the inside out.

  • This year I'd settle for the 2010 version. We went 8-8, swept the division and stilled missed the playoffs. Though I found it wryly amusing that year (sour grapes) I'd be ecstatic for that this year.

    About the only thing that would disappoint me would be fewer than 5 wins. I'll expect more NEXT year.
