THE 12: SUMMARY

Posted March 17, 2013

THE first four installments of this years THE 12 focused on fixing broken structures in the organization: Secondary, O-line, Depth, and Communication. While roster maintenance is important, it's also important for players to know who's running the ship and what the team's central idea is. It's time to define what it means to be an Eagle.

The second four aimed at what is needed to get back to playing playoff level football on Defense. Not just "Get more sacks!" or "Get more picks!", but outlining what can be done to create a unit that is stifling, even if it doesn't produce a bunch of gaudy stats. Aspects like proper Gap Control to stuff the run and force teams to be one dimensional, and going to a Smarter Coverage Scheme that helps the pass rush. Officially handing your team some rally guys in a Field General who's more than just a captain, and a Hammer whose job it is to collect penalties and fines, while his very presence changes blocking schemes and inspires fear in opponents.

The last four installments dealt with the Offense. Regardless of what system is run here *cough* Spread *cough* Option. Every Offense needs room to Run Inside and Clearing Out the underbrush is addressed. We are also blessed to have a few mobile QB's that can Work the Edge and give the OC options, but also giving that QB somewhere to quickly Dump Off the ball, will go a long way to keeping Vick upright.

None of this is impossible or really even difficult, and that's the point. THE 12 has been, is, and always will be more about what we already can do with what we have, instead of primarily focusing on adding big name players.
