FINALLY Monday has arrived, and with it comes the Lowdown, back in full effect!
Victor Cruz and the New York Giants have reportedly come to terms on a new contract. Cruz salsa danced his way into a 5-year, $43 million deal with the New York football Giants after many months of tug-o-war over an agreeable amount. At $7.6 million per season, Cruz has become the 18th highest paid wide receiver in the NFL. (USA Today)
Lifelong Cleveland Browns’ fan (Yes, they do exist), Scott E. Entsminger, 55, of Mansfield, died Thursday, July 4, 2013. Scott, a Browns season ticket holder, had apparently suffered through so much agony with the Browns during his life that he decided to take one last jab at the team as he went out. He requested Cleveland Browns pall bearers “so the Browns can let him down one last time”. This was in the guy’s will. ZING! (The Columbus Dispatch)
So, Kevin Durant is off the market at the tender age of 24. Durant is now engaged to Minnesota Lynx player, Monica Wright. The two have know each other for more that 7-years, and obviously have much in common, being that they both chose the same job field. Perhaps they’ll go half on the next big NBA (or WNBA) superstar! (The Washington Post)
The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly after former Laker, Lamar Odom. Odom won 6th man of the year as a Laker back in 2011. Odom was rumored in deals that would have brought Chris Paul to the Lakers, and just couldn’t get over the fact that the NBA is a business. From there, Odom was traded to the Mavericks, where he cried his way out, and eventually landed in Los Angeles (for the Clippers) way out of shape, and essentially useless. I’m not sure why the Lakers are in hot pursuit at this point, but it probably has to due with the fact that they don’t have any money, and they believe Odom will give them a discount??? I really have no idea. Just guessing. (SLAM Online)
This Japanese dude, who plays for the Yokohama Bay Stars (Yea, I have no idea who they are either) attempts the best bunt you’ve ever seen, and I’ll bet straight cash on that…. homie. Just watch and thank me later! You can check out the video at (Next Impulse Sports)
Could Michael Vick still face the possibility of being cut? I guess the idea floating around out there is that the Eagles have to keep Vick because Chip Kelly likes to throw? Am I close? Truth be told, Vick’s job is probably still on the line if he coughs up the ball 16 times per game like he did last time we saw him in action. (My Sports Rumors)
If you live under a rock, you may not yet realize that Anderson Silva lost his belt to Chris Weidman on Saturday night. This was Silva’s first loss in the UFC (16-1), his first loss in over 7-years, and the first time he’s ever been knocked out. Let’s give a quick round of applause to Weidman (10-0) for finally catching Silva when he was seemingly interested in something besides fighting. Not to take anything away from Weidman, but Silva’s comments after the fight would lead one to believe that he didn’t really give a **** about whether or not he lost.
“I don’t fight anymore for the belt,” Silva said.“I’m tired. I’ve fought for a long time. My (plan) for the belt is finished tonight. Chris is the new champion.”
Now, again, props to Weidman, but I must ask the question that everyone else is thinking.. How long has Silva been trying to lose? We’ve all witnessed his careless, and often cocky antics in the octagon over the past few years. I, for one, just thought hew had gotten to a point where he was too good to lose, and therefor he was filling his time in between pounding his current opponent, by goofing off. Is it fair to ask if Silva has even been trying? I mean, look at his stance when Weidman knocks him out. His feet are side-by-side, spread apart about the width of his shoulders. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say Anderson is readying to shoot a jumper, not fighting an undefeated opponent. Hands to his side, heading weaving around like a snake, and in no fighting stance I’ve ever seen. I just have a hard time believing this guy is that sloppy… BUT, anyways, you didn’t come to hear me rant. Just watch the clip and decide for yourself.
Time for the moment you’ve all been waiting for.. Drum Roll.. Monday’s Lockdwon Lady of the Day! Deiondra Sanders. Yes, Deion Sanders’ daughter.
