Why FSU lost the game: Too much Kendall Marshall. While Derwin Kitchen had an OK game (6 assists, 3 turnovers, 12 pts), the difference of having a true point guard clearly showed. Kitchen is what he is. That is not his fault. Leonard Hamilton decided long ago to go with a combo guard at a crucial position in a league that is known for point guards. That does not appear to be changing any time soon. Now Kitchen’s defense on Marshall …. that’s a different story. When FSU lost the game: The Seminoles closed the score to 31-27 late in the first half. In a matter of moments they were down 43-32. OK, the ‘Noles closed the gap to 43-34. But really … that was a lucky shot by Kitchen. Yes FSU closed it to 57-51 in the second half. Marshall promptly answered that not with an assist but a three pointer to put UNC back up by double digits and that was the end of that. But you cannot allow UNC to score 43 points in one half.
