Maryland motorists traveling along U.S. Route 1 on Friday witnessed an unusual spectacle galloping along the pavement. This is because Bullett Catcher, a 4-year-old gelding, broke loose from Laurel Park Race Track and made his way through three counties -- without a rider on board. Witnesses claim the thoroughbred reached speeds upwards of 30 miles during his solo tour. The horse initially got free after tossing jockey Jeremy Rose from the saddle while heading back to the barn after a morning workout.Bullett Catcher, as his name might suggest, then darted like a speeding bullet out of the stable gate and then headed for Route 1. According to the report, he was tracked down a mile and a half later unharmed."You think you've seen it all," proclaimed one of the horse's co-owners.Amazingly, jockey Abel Castellano just so happened to catch part of the pursuit on video."I had finished working a horse and was coming to the jocks room when I saw a horse run by heading out of the stable gate," Castellano said. "I decided to follow the horse and maybe when he stopped I could catch him. All of a sudden we got to Route 1 and there was a red light. I saw the cars driving by and I said 'oh my God, we're going to have an accident'. But at that moment it changed to a green light to make a left and the horse just made a left."I went, 'oh, we're so lucky so far'. Then we got the point where the road splits, you go right so that horse he keeps to the right, so we follow him. The horse is still running 30 miles an hour. Finally he slowed down in front of the Chrysler dealership almost to Main Street and we were able to catch him. The story had a happy ending but it was scary."I'm not exactly sure where Bullett Catcher was heading, but an educated guess might be that he was heading toward the Bluegrass State. The Kentucky Derby is just under four months away.Via USA TODAY.
