MVN:
WIth all of the talk about how he doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut, I have learned one thing about our new head coach. Rex Ryan is a man who will dominate and impose his will. His team will follow suit this year.
When you look at the history of the league and teams that win, it is a fact that any team that can limit opposing offenses to 17 points or less win 11 games per year. For 65 weeks in a row, the Ravens have led the league as the number one ranked defense. This is a major accomplishment and when you look at who was the runner up, it was the Steelers with 39 weeks. Looking at the rushing defense streak totals, the Steelers have been ranked number one for 64 weeks and the Ravens for 53 weeks in a row. Ryan has a history in his career dating back to his college days of having his teams consistently ranked in the top of the leagues in defense. BTW, the Jets were third in that rushing category with 17 weeks in a row.
What I am getting at here, is that the core of a solid defense was already in place. Mangini was a student Belechik who we all know is a master of defense. Ryan is also a defensive guru from looking at his track record and also his pedigree as his father invented the 4-6 formation. The team will not take a step back even with the question marks at QB and WR. They will take a major step forward this year.
Ryan is a crafty coach who is well liked by his players and well respected by his peers across the league. He has been sending emails to his players letting them know what is expected of them by him and his staff, and also as a way of motivating them, he is letting them know how little is expected of them by a lot of critics and writers. for four years under Mangini, when the Jets underperformed, I prayed for a coach with some fire in his belly to ignite the passion that exists in all professional football players.
From the looks of his belly, this is gonna be one huge fire!
