The Detroit Tigers have placed second baseman Omar Infante on the 15-day DL with a left ankle sprain. The Tigers tweeted the news a few hours before their Tuesday night game against the Chicago White Sox. The #Tigers have placed Omar Infante on the 15-day DL retro to 7/4 with a left ankle sprain. — #BackBenoit (@tigers) July 9, 2013 Infante left last Wednesday's game with a shin injury after Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Colby Rasmus slid into his left leg and has not played since. The injury was obviously more serious than the Tigers initially thought, given the long delay between the incident and this move. With the move backdated, Infante will be eligible to return the weekend after the All-Star game so he may not miss more than another week's worth of games. Hernan Perez has been called up from Double-A Erie to take Infante's place. He will make his first start at second base straight away. Ramon Santiago had been the beneficiary of extra playing time with Infante out, starting all five games at second, but he is hitting just .162/.235/.257 in 84 PA this year. Perez has been affiliated with the Tigers for over five years but is still just 22 and has only two major league at-bats, both coming in June of last year. He has shown some decent speed in the minors, stealing 24 bases in 86 games. Follow @mlbinjurynews Looking for fantasy baseball advice?

Tigers Place Omar Infante On The 15-Day Disabled List

The Detroit Tigers have placed second baseman, Omar Infante, on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to July 4th. He’s been dealing with a left ankle sprain that just didn’t seem to get better with a few games off. He had been struggling a bit and maybe a break will do him some good. You probably already had him removed from the starting lineup but just in case, do so now. In...

White Sox blast Tigers, 11-4

DETROIT -- Justin Verlander didn't have his best stuff Tuesday night, but for most of the game, he did a balancing act that would have made Nik Wallenda proud. The ending, though, was something that no one wanted to see. Verlander had struggled all night, allowing eight hits and a walk in the first seven innings, but most of the runners had come with two out and he had limited...

After Victor Martinez drove in two on a go ahead double in the tenth inning of Monday’s game, Miguel Cabrera stopped himself from dousing Brayan Pena with a cup of water.  After all, Miggy scored from second on the double. Mr. MVP needs his water.

Tigers extend lead over Indians

Max Scherzer didn't care that his record stayed spotless. All that mattered to him was that Detroit's improved. Martinez doubled off Matt Albers (2-1) as the Tigers...

Of his last 10 starts, Porcello has surrendered three or less runs seven times. In that span, he allowed zero or one run five times. 2. For...

Chicago closer Kevin Gregg may be on the Detroit Tigers’ radar as the July 31 trade deadline approaches. But what about starter Matt Garza, who, like Gregg, will be a free agent after this season? ESPN’s Jim Bowden, formerly the GM for the Reds and Nationals, suggests a package deal that sends Garza and Gregg to the Tigers for Avisail Garcia, Rick Porcello and 2012 second-round...
