Fresh off winning its first Big Ten regular-season title in 32 years last season, the Michigan State baseball team has been named the preseason favorite to win the 2012 Big Ten Championship, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon. Draymond Green, a 6-foot-7 forward from Saginaw High, averaged 17.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists as 11th-ranked MSU beat Penn State and No. 3 Ohio State. When the polls are released later today, the Spartans could well return to the Top 10; OSU should fall at least a few spots.

Michigan State men's basketball senior forward Draymond Green was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Feb. 13. Green averaged 17.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in MSU's victories over Penn State and at No. 3 Ohio State. This is the third weekly honor of the season for Green, and the fourth of his career.

The Michigan State women's golf team opened its spring season Monday with the first round of the Regional Challenge at the Palos Verdes Country Club. The Michigan State softball team wrapped up the final day of the 2012 Combat Classic losing to UAB 3-2 on Sunday (Feb. 12). The Spartans (1-4) rallied in the bottom of the fifth inning to come within one but couldn't hold off the Blazers, who advanced to 2-2 on the season.
