The Redshirt Senior:
Tommy Tuberville, how dare you speak the truth. Tubs has been publicly reprimanded by the Big 12 for speaking out about the future of the now 10-team conference, saying there's "too much disparity between all the teams'' in the Big 12 in how money is distributed. He drew this bit of retaliation from commish Dan Beebe, who says Tuberville's comments "were unfortunate, and contrary to the very strong feelings of unity expressed publicly and privately by the Big 12 Board of Directors and athletic directors."
While Beebe may not like it, can anyone argue that the new Texas Tech coach has a valid point? The new set up, which basically lets Texas run amok and allows the Longhorns to have their own network without sharing profits, sets up the smaller schools in the conference to generate millions less than the Big 12's smaller schools.
Eventually, those smaller schools are going to get sick of this setup and push for more money, which could again force Texas to listen to another conference and which ultimately would be the undoing of the conference Beebe worked so hard to keep together.
The sad truth is Beebe made this bed and Tuberville and the other Big 12 coaches have to lie in it, so why call out Tuberville for pointing out what everyone outside of the conference offices knows is true?
