Search engine, excuse me, decision engine Bing released a list today telling us what Americans were paying attention to as they searched the internet this past year.

Justin Bieber emerged as the top celebrity, dethroning last year’s champ Kim Kardashian who finished second.

In the domain of TSB, Maria Sharapova was the most searched athlete, followed by Tiger Woods and Serena Williams.

Regarding the non-Country Club sports, Kobe Bryant beat out Lebron for top searched NBA player, Brett Favre was #1 for the NFL (he’ll never go away- really)  and Derek Jeter was most searched among MLB.

Full lists for multiple categories after the jump. And wherever you see someone’s name hyperlinked (highlighted) feel free to click there

Based on the aggregation of billions of search queries conducted on Bing this year, here are the much-anticipated top 10 lists for the most searched people, news stories, sports stars, musicians, celebrity events, consumer electronics and TV shows. The complete report is available at Bing Trends.

Most-Searched Person of the Year

Obviously Bieber fever was #1 in 2011, compared with his #6 last year. Sandra Bullock, Jesse James, Michael Jackson, Tiger Woods, Barack Obama and Kate Gosselin fell off the list this year, while (the retiring?) Katy Perry (she can retire from music that’s fine, a long as her boobs stay active), Jennifer Lopez, Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, Megan Fox (comparing Michael Bay to Hitler, and deservedly so, will get you on this list!) and Miley Cyrus were newcomers to the top 10.

Rank 2011 2010 1 Justin Bieber Kim Kardashian 2 Kim Kardashian Sandra Bullock 3 Jennifer Aniston Lady Gaga 4 Lindsay Lohan Tiger Woods 5 Jennifer Lopez Barack Obama 6 Britney Spears Justin Bieber 7 Katy Perry Kate Gosselin 8 Megan Fox Jesse James 9 Lady Gaga Jennifer Aniston 10 Miley Cyrus Michael Jackson
