FRISCO-- Jurickson Profar has truly had an impressive season at Double-A Frisco. Through 114 games, the Rangers top prospect was hitting .280 with 14 HR, 61 RBI and had also stolen 15 bases for the Rough Riders. As if those numbers weren't notable enough, he also ranks 10th in the Texas League in slugging percentage at .461 and 11th in OPS at .823. In short, the 19-year-old shortstop has been every bit as good as advertised if not even better than many thought he'd be after making the jump from the Low Single-A South Atlantic League to the Double-A Texas League earlier this year. "He's had a real good year," Frisco manager Steve Buechele said. "He got off to a little slow start and was obviously phenomenal there for a long stretch. For a young kid to compete the way he has is impressive. He's played every day for the most part. He's held up really well. I couldn't be happier with the progress that he's made. I think in August you get a ...

Holland & Dempster dueling Harry Carays

Derek Holland and Ryan Dempster can deliver impressions with the best of them, especially for one pretty famous broadcaster. Holland and Dempster can both deliver spot-on impressions of longtime Cubs broadcaster Harry Caray, and with the Rangers in New York last week, MLB took full advantage of that. The duo of Texas pitchers dropped by MLB Fan Cave to hang out and to also put their...

Holland, Dempster impersonate Harry Caray

ARLINGTON, Texas Left-hander Derek Holland has been the man when it comes to Harry Caray impersonations with the Texas Rangers. The acquisition of Ryan Dempster at the trade deadline last month changed that. Holland, who took his Caray work to a national level last year during the World Series, got a chance to work with the godfather of Caray impersonations last week when the...

Rangers reinstate Dempster from restricted list

Ryan Dempster has been reinstated from the restricted list to start the opener of the Texas Rangers' homestand. The AL West-leading Rangers reinstated Dempster before Monday night's game against Baltimore. Outfielder Leonys Martin, who was recalled Friday to take Dempster's roster spot, was optioned back to Triple-A Round Rock. Dempster has given up eight runs in two...

Dempster returns from visa break, looks sharp

Who doesn't love a weekend off? It apparently worked wonders for Texas Rangers right-hander Ryan Dempster, who was on the restricted list over the weekend because of "personal reasons related to visa issues." Dempster might not have been able to get into his native Canada, but he made himself right at home back in Texas. After a rough start at Yankee Stadium last...

Yu Darvish has tightness in groin

Rangers starting pitcher Yu Darvish has experienced some tightness in his right quadriceps during a bullpen session Tuesday. Rangers manager Ron Washington said after Texas' 5-3 loss to the Orioles the right-hander will be reevaluated Wednesday but is expected to make his next scheduled start Thursday against the Twins in Arlington. ''It's no issue,'' Washington...

Rangers pitchers Derek Holland and Ryan Dempster as dueling Harry Carays

I grew up watching Harry Caray mumble and stumble over afternoon Cubs games, but wasn’t old enough to appreciate what a gem he was.  Texas Rangers pitchers Derek Holland (left) and newly-acquired Ryan Dempster (right) do two of the best Harry Caray-impressions you’ll ever see. Caray was never known for his smooth delivery, but his white hair, big glasses and the ability to...

Dempster leads the way as Rangers handle O's

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Ryan Dempster pitched eight innings, his longest outing in more than two months and his best since being traded to Texas, and the AL West-leading Rangers beat the surprising Baltimore Orioles 5-1 on Monday night. Dempster (2-1 in Texas, 7-6 overall) retired the last 11 batters he faced. The right-hander acquired from the Chicago Cubs on July 31 allowed one...

Rangers 11, Blue Jays 2

Michael Young hit a three-run homer and a two-run double to help the Texas Rangers beat the slumping Toronto Blue Jays 11-2 on Sunday. David Murphy also connected and doubled twice and Geovany Soto had three hits as baseball's highest scoring offense passed 600 runs for the season. The AL West leaders top the majors with 606 runs scored. Matt Harrison (14-7) pitched eight strong...

VIDEO: Derek Holland and Ryan Dempster do their best Harry Carey impression

Rangers pitchers Derek Holland and Ryan Dempster stopped by the MLB Fan Cave in New York City the other day to do some mingling and give impressions of legendary Harry Caray. A lot of people try to pull off the Harry Caray impression, especially after the Will Ferrell and Jeff Goldblum SNL skit a few years back but end up butchering it. I have to admit though the Holland and Dempster...

Derek Holland and Ryan Dempster absolutely kill as Dueling Harry Carays

I doubt anyone in all of baseball can pull off a Harry Caray impersonation as well as Texas pitchers Derek Holland and Ryan Dempster can.  Put the two together in a video as dueling Harry Carays, let them call highlights of each other’s pitching performances—as the fine folks at MLB Fan Cave did—and you’ve got yourself a big steaming pile of comedy gold. Best line: ...

Ryan Dempster and Derek Holland Announce Highlights as Harry Caray

Ryan Dempster and Derek Holland had some fun in the MLB Fan Cave. The two pitchers announced some MLB highlights as legendary Chicago Cubs announcer Harry Caray. I guess Dempster had picked up some tips from Will Ferrell already. And Holland has some television experience outside of baseball. These guys are are a hilarious. I’m hoping they bring out some extra cheers if the Rangers...

Feldman, Rangers upended by Orioles

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Nate McLouth's two-run home run keyed Baltimore's four-run fifth inning and the Orioles held off the Texas Rangers 5-3 Tuesday night. Chris Tillman (6-2) gave up three runs on six hits and struck out seven and walked one in 6 2-3 innings before giving way to the Orioles' bullpen, which now has a 1.57 ERA in the last 18 games. Jim Johnson worked...

Derek Holland & Ryan Dempster produce dueling Harry Carays

Your browser does not support iframes. Ryan Dempster and Derek Holland are two MLB pitchers known for their impressions and humorous antics.  Both have made their Harry Caray impersonations a major pitch in the comedic arsenal.  It just so happens that with Dempster's trade from Chicago to Texas, the two are on the same pitching staff and can now take their Dueling Harry...

Video: Derek Holland and Ryan Dempster With Strong Harry Caray Impressions

Dempster has a stronger Harry Caray. He commits to the character. Derek just wings it and is a good sport. Will Ferrell would be proud of Ryan’s impression. I would have loved to have heard where the conversation would have went if they asked each other if they would eat the moon if it were [...]

Wash doesn't feel pressure to play prospects

For whatever reason, there's a segment of fans who seem more concerned about the 2015 Texas Rangers than what happening this season. Even some of my colleagues in the media seem obsessed with trying to trade All-Star shortstop Elvis Andrus to make room for one of the top prospects in baseball, Jurickson Profar. There seems to be such a fascination with the unknown that it causes...
