This was the first trade made by Dave Dombrowski as the general manager of the Detroit Tigers. Earlier in 2002he had fired GM Randy Smith and named himself GM. Many view this as the beginning of the Dombrowski rebuild, and where he added the first big piece that helped spark the 2006 World Series run.
