PLAYERS: Trish Stratus
It can easily be argued that no woman has ever had a more profound, lasting effect on professional wrestling than Trish Stratus. The same can be argued, mind you, for The Fabulous Moolah, who was defending the Women’s Title long before — and for quite a while after — Trish Stratus was born. But if you look at which woman was a greater influence on how women’s wrestling is perceived and performed today, Trish is the pioneer. She set the standard that all present-day Divas aspire — and typically fail — to meet. She had the buxom blonde sex appeal of predecessors Sunny and Sable, but could actually throw down inside the ring — possibly better than any woman before or since. Whether you love or hate the Divas division, it’s impossible to deny that Trish made a positive, long-lasting — and Hall of Fame-worthy — contribution to the role of women in professional wrestling. The question now is: who deserves the privilege of ushering Trish into immortality with a Hall of Fame induction speech? Here are some contenders — some much more plausible than others.
