MLB Injury News:
The Colorado Rockies not only lost last night’s contest to
the Washington Nationals, but they lost shortstop and MVP candidate Troy
Tulowitzki for the foreseeable future. Prior to his rib injury, Tulo was red-hot
for the Rockies (.347/.413/.635) so the timing couldn’t be much worse.
The Rockies are expecting to be without Tulowitzki for four to six weeks. However, rib injuries can be tricky, and sports chiropractor Dr.
Ray Solano (@DrRaySolano) believes his absence could wind up being longer.
Troy Tulowitzki left in the eighth inning of Thursday's 5-4
loss to Washington following a diving stop of a ground ball that ultimately
caused an injury to his right side. Two Major league sources confirmed to the
Denver Post what Rockies fans didn't want to hear, a broken rib. This injury is
likely to force Tulowitzki into a lengthy leave of absence.
There are many problems with broken ribs. A broken rib can
take four to six weeks to heal properly, but that's not the only problem.
During the early healing phases, simple breathing can be very painful. For that
reason, little or no conditioning takes place during this time. After bone
healing has taken place and pain has subsided, then proper conditioning
protocols can be implemented to a level of comfort.
movement patterns such as torque, dives, and throwing adds stress to the ribs
and must be performed pain-free before we can expect Tulowitzki's return. I
expect a lengthy and rigorous rehab ahead. Expect Tulowitzki to be out for at
least eight weeks.

I’m going to come right out and say this is another FanGraphs article about batter pace. That is, the average amount of seconds between each pitch thrown to the batter, as determined by PITCHf/x time stamps. I haven’t gone to this well in a while, and I know it doesn’t appeal to everyone, since pace doesn’t mean much when it comes to determining future or present performance...
