Minnesota Twins star Joe Mauer has not considered sitting out the rest of the season to let his concussion heal.
Mauer said Thursday he's feeling better, 10 days after he got hit in the facemask with a foul tip behind the plate. But the six-time All-Star acknowledged he's not concerned about catching again this year, just simply returning to the field sometime in September.
Mauer has been taking part in light exercises but is still bothered by light and sound. He won't travel on the team's road trip to Texas this weekend. So the earliest he'd be back in the lineup is likely Sept. 6, when the next homestand starts.
With the Twins out of playoff contention, there's no real rush.

MINNEAPOLIS -- The record was going to be broken, whether the Minnesota Twins wanted it to happen or not. And with a Chris Colabello strikeout in the bottom of the fifth inning, a new mark was set.
Colabello's strikeout was the 1,122nd time a Minnesota batter was fanned this season, the most in a single season in Twins history. The old record of 1,121 strikeouts was set back...
Minnesota Twins right-hander Samuel Deduno has soreness in his throwing shoulder.
Deduno was pulled from his start against Kansas City on Thursday after three innings because of discomfort. He gave up four hits, three runs and a walk while striking out four. Deduno was bothered by biceps tendinitis around the shoulder earlier this month.
The Twins also lost right fielder Wilkin...
I am definitely a supporter of Trevor Plouffe. I think he has a lively bat that can hit home runs from the right side of the plate. As I’ve said since Target Field opened, having big bats on the right side of the plate will be vital to the Twins success. For over a year, he was the type of hitter that the Twins needed, and the type of guy that I wanted the Twins to have on their...
As of yesterday, Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer told manager Ron Gardenhire that he was feeling better. However, the skipper told reporters that the team still doesn't have a timetable for Mauer's return, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com.
"We just have to wait and see," Gardenhire said.
"I don't have a timetable. He came in today and says...
While Joe Mauer said earlier this week that he was still experiencing sensitivity to light and sound he’s beginning to make some progress from his concussion.
According to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com Twins general manager Terry Ryan said that Mauer ramped up his exercises on Friday. He’s expected to progress to hitting off a tee today.
With 31 games to go, the Minnesota Twins have already set a team record for strikeouts in a season.
Yes, the whole year for this team has been one big swing and a miss.
Salvador Perez homered twice for Kansas City, had four hits and sent a message to Twins starter Andrew Albers after a high-and-inside fastball, leading the Royals to an 8-1 victory on Wednesday night.
It took Twins right-hander Liam Hendriks 18 big league starts to get his first career win. He needed seven more starts to get win No. 2.
To do it, all he had to do was outduel Texas Rangers ace Yu Darvish.
Hendriks allowed two runs (one earned) through six innings, and the Twins broke up Darvish's no-hitter in the seventh inning to score three runs and give Hendriks the win...
As the Minnesota Twins look to avoid a situation that plagued Justin Morneau for two seasons, they are being as cautious as possible with Joe Mauer. The All-Star catcher suffered a concussion on August 19th, and there is still no timetable for his return. Head injuries can linger, and in Morneau's case, they can present themselves even after the injury seems to have cleared...
This video puts you right on the field with an ump’s-eye-view of Twins prospect Miguel Sano’s at bat. It’s hard to appreciate when watching on TV, but taking pitches at 90+ MPH looks like a bit of a rush, especially when some of them come inside.

That streak-o-meter is pointing northward again for the Royals after they completed a three-game sweep over the Minnesota Twins with a 3-1 victory on a steamy Thursday afternoon at Target Field.
That makes five victories in a row after a seven-game skid. That was part of a 2-10 slide that followed a 19-5 sprint once play resumed after the All-Star break. (And they lost five in a...
Texas Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish has been having on heck of a season. The Japanese phenom is certainly shaping up to be one of the best in the game, and proved that once again with an 11 strikeout performance (his fifth start in his last seven with 11+ strikeouts) against the Minnesota Twins Friday night.
With stuff like this it comes as no surprise that batters are baffled when...
