NCAA LogoWhile I had a perfect Day One picking the games of the ACC Tournament, in Day Two I went three for four, which is still pretty good considering how lousy I am at picking games. I got the UNC/Miami game, but definitely was way off on thinking that the Tar Herls would have an easy game of it. I did however make the right call on Virginia Tech being my upset, as well as Duke taking Maryland down, but completely missed on Boston College defeating Clemson. And while all of this might be good for me, since I never thought I be 7 and 1 after two days of the tournament, what does it mean for the teams on the bubble and their chances to make it into the Big Dance?

Well, right now Joe Lunardi has six teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference going on to play in the NCAA Tournament, which is about two more than most analysts had about a week ago. The two locks, UNC and Duke, are right now both a two seed. Florida State, who lost to Virginia Tech, is being slated as a nine seed by the ESPN bracketologist. And Clemson, who beat BC yesterday, is a 12 seed. Lunardi also had Boston College (11) and VT (12) in as of this moment, but both are in the “last four in” category, which means they both must hope that no surprises happen in conference championship games.

One thing that does not make much sense to me is that Joe Lunardi has both Pittsburgh, who lost Thursday to UConn, and Notre Dame, that let Louisville come back and win the game yesterday, as number one seeds. The other two are Ohio State and Kansas. With both Carolina and Duke being a 2 seed, with the Heels being in Kansas’ bracket and the Blue Devils in OSU’s, it makes it feel like ESPN is saying they are the 2 weaker of the second slots, and BYU and Texas are stronger. That makes no sense whatsoever to me. Texas has been pretty bad down the road and like it or not BYU isn’t as strong as they were a couple of weeks ago.

It will be interesting if the Heels or the Blue Devils will make it to the top line if either of them are able to win their conference tournament.
