Dailybruin.com UCLA hosts No. 11 Arizona tonight at Pauley Pavilion. As the big, swinging ESPN game of the night, the contest got the full GameDay treatment this afternoon with Jay Bilas, Rece Davis, Digger Phelps and Jalen Rose holding court. Last night, after UCLA finished practice in Pauley Pavilion, Bruin players and coaches treated the fans camping outside of the on-campus arena to 40 pizzas.` Bruins coach Ben Howland and guard Shabazz Muhammad, 19, jumped in on ‘beer’ pong. Dailybruin.com Dailybruin.com See those single quotes above and in the headline? We’re not sure it was beer. We weren’t there, and we don’t know and can’t tell for certain from the pics, though they look like Coors Light cans to us. What we do know is what we read from the Daily Bruin: Two UCPD officers just strolled through the campout area, past beer cans strewn about the place and plenty of open containers of alcohol. They didn’t do anything. Looks like this isn’t a “dry campus” for tonight. - Ryan Menezes, Bruin Sports senior staff Alcoholic beverages are among the items prohibited in/around Pauley Pavilion as per the facility’s website. (Fwiw – So are ‘noisemakers including thunder sticks, musical instruments, whistles, air horns and boom boxes,’ meaning Lloyd Dobler is not welcome at Pauley.) Whatever. Howland and Muhammad playing some pong is cool by us. There are no pics of them drinking anything. Given all the crap that UCLA alums give Howland for not being John Wooden — and who is? — we wouldn’t blame the guy if he shotgunned three beers before each half of every game. UCLA-Arizona starts at 9 p.m. (ET) Filed under: Basketball

Ben Howland Says Shabazz Muhammad Will Enter 2013 NBA Draft

Well we can never say UCLA head coach Ben Howland isn’t honest with himself.  After sweeping the season series with a 74-69 victory over No. 11 Arizona last night, Howland confirmed what most already knew, star freshman guard Shabazz Muhammad would definitely be one and done. “No doubt about it,” Howland said. Shabazz Muhammad One and Done According to UCLA Head Coach Ben Howland

Ben Howland, the UCLA head basketball coach, gave reporters some information that they knew, but were not expecting to be confirmed until after the NCAA tournament. Following the team's 74-69 win over No. 11 Arizona he told the world that his star player was going pro. When asked about his coach's comments Shabazz laughed them off and said eh was glad to be at UCLA...

Howland: Shabazz Muhammad is one and done

UCLA freshman sensation Shabazz Muhammad has played his final game at Pauley Pavilion. Well, at least according to Bruins Coach Ben Howland. The 6-foot-6 Muhammad is part of a blue-chip freshman class, which includes 6-9 guard Kyle Anderson, on a UCLA team that struggled early in the season but is in the thick of the Pac-12 Conference title race. But the explosive swingman appears...

Ben Howland: Shabazz Muhammad is leaving UCLA for NBA

Ben Howland confirmed Saturday what everyone already knew: freshman Shabazz Muhammad is leaving UCLA after the season and heading to the NBA Draft. The Bruins beat Arizona 74-69 Saturday in their final home game of the season. It was Senior Night at Pauley Pavilion, and though Larry Drew II was the only player honored, Muhammad may as well have been, too. “I knew going into this...

Ben Howland Played Beer Pong With Students Last Night

We’ve watched enough UCLA basketball games over the years to assume head coach Ben Howland walks around with a permanent scowl on his face. Apparently, we were wrong, as photos from last night outside Pauley Pavilion suggest. Students were camped out in anticipation of a visit from College GameDay (and a showdown with the 11th-ranked Arizona Wildcats), so the head coach showed...

Video: UCLA’s Norman Powell Posterizes Arizona

UCLA got a big win over No. 11 Arizona last night behind the efforts of Shabazz Muhammad and Kyle Anderson. But it was a reserve guard named Norman Powell who may have had the game-defining moment. Powell’s dunk was his only bucket of the game – I’d say he made the most of his contributions.
