On the heels of Manti Te’o and Notre Dame looking like complete (you fill-in-the-blank with your favorite adjective), the University of Michigan did some damage control to teach their athletes a lesson on being “catfished”.
The ever popular “Urban Dictionary” defines a “catfish” as “A catfish is someone who pretends to be someone they’re not using Facebook or other social media to create false identities, particularly to pursue deceptive online romances.”
Michigan athletic director spoke at an event in Toledo Friday morning and casually mentioned that his department catfished student-athletes in Ann Arbor. Their goal: to teach them a handy lesson not to be duped or used like Te’o was.
Kyle Rowland, an Ohio State beat writer for Eleven Warriors, broke this on Twitter (via The Big Lead)
Fun stuff in Ann Arbor. I actually applaud Brandon’s efforts here because the politically-correct word I would have used to describe Te’o is dunce.
