The Phillies started this road trip off in a bad way by being swept in Miami. This week, they'll play a three-game set in New York against the Mets before headed home to host the Braves for a weekend series to close out the first half of the year. Today Vance Worley (4-4, 2.92 ERA) will get the start against the Mets while Jonathan Niese (6-3, 3.55 ERA) will be his counterpart. Worley is coming off of a strong winning outing against the Pirates. On Tuesday, Worley tossed six innings, allowing three earned on six hits while walking two and striking out five. This will be Worley's first start with a week's rest all season and he will look to keep his command and velocity at the right spot. In his last three starts, Worley is 1-2 with a 2.70 ERA and tonight will be his second start against the Mets this season. Back on April 14, Worley was held accountable for four earned runs on eight hits through six innings in a losing decision against the Mets. In his career, Worley ha...

At This Point, You Have to Trade Hamels

The Phillies have three options with Cole Hamels, none of which is clear cut. It’s a great year to have a trade asset like Hamels — the added wild card teams in each league will make more teams buyers — but the Phillies are in a unique position. The Phils were nine games under .500 entering play Tuesday at Citi Field. It was their worst record through 81 games since 1997 and...

Cliff Lee Leads Phillies to Win…Finally

Cliff Lee took a Gatorade bath at the hands of Cole Hamels and Roy Halladay after notching his first win in 14 starts this season. It’s over now. And it’s been a long time coming. Cliff Lee, who has been both the victim and the perpetrator this season has finally won his 1st game of the season. More importantly, he helped the Phillies end a 6-game skid AND looked a lot like the...

Utley, Chooch Helps Lee Get His First Win of the Season

Happy July 4th!!! Did Cliff Lee win a game yet? Is he hurt? It is basically the story of the first half. We all know that Cliff Lee has not been the Lee we saw last season. Phillies have been 7-1 since 2004 on July 4th including two walk offs against the Mets. Cliff Lee and Chris Young were throwing zeros until the fourth inning. Scott Hairston put the Mets ahead with a solo...

Phils' Lee ends victory drought at 281 days

Cliff Lee and the Philadelphia Phillies can breathe easier. Lee won for the first time since last September and the Phillies stopped a six-game losing streak with a 9-2 victory over the New York Mets in a matinee Independence Day game at Citi Field. Lee held New York to two runs on seven hits in eight innings; he struck out nine and walked one. "Today was hot and he did...

A season to be expected for the reeling Phillies

Rewind to 2011: On that fateful October night, as Ryan Howard left the batter’s box and never made it to first that was the first time I predicted the fate of the 2012 Phillies. There was no other way for this season to go than the way it has to date. The unthinkable has happened. The Phillies currently sit in last place and, according to ESPN.com, have a 3.2% chance of...

Halladay close to returning to Phils rotation

Roy Halladay is just one of the many pieces to the Phillies puzzle that landed on the DL this season. The good news is that he could be back a little sooner than anticipated.

Phillies-Mets Preview

The Philadelphia Phillies are trying to stay positive despite being on the verge of tying their longest losing streak of the season. Mets 11, Phillies 1

NEW YORK -- A few hours after Philadelphia Phillies manager Charlie Manuel acknowledged his team needed to start winning or face the prospect of having veterans traded, the New York Mets did their part to keep the Phillies' losing streak going.
