Montreal Canadiens defenseman Jarred Tinordi was in the penalty box, sending the Vancouver Canucks on their second power play of the game.  Canadiens forward Lars Eller cleared the puck into the Canucks zone, where goalie Roberto Luongo stopped the puck and set it up for his defenseman Jason Garrison.  Garrison then moved the puck to Dan Hamhuis who inexplicably lost control of the puck and it trickled out front.  Luongo had his back turned to the play, because his job was essentially done, and managed to knock the puck into his own net while setting up.  How something like this could happen I will never know, but it gave the Canadiens a 2-1 lead and they went on to win 4-1. Did Canucks give up strangest own-goal in NHL history? (Video)

The Vancouver Canucks gave up what may be the strangest shorthanded own-goal in NHL history during the second period of Saturday night's game against the Montreal Canadiens. Everything seemed normal as Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo played the puck behind the net and passed it to defenseman Jason Garrison, who gave it to fellow defenseman Dan Hamhuis. However, things...

Roberto Luongo gives up funny own goal (video)

Vancouver Canucks goaltender and Borat lookalike Roberto Luongo gave up an extremely embarrassing “own goal.” And it was a shorty too! Actually this might be one of the worst or strangest own goals I’ve ever seen. I really don’t know what happened to Roberto Luongo here. Watch the video below: H/T Fox 6 Milwaukee Courtney King and Yahoo Puck Daddy So here’s what happened...

Canucks Make Case for Worst Goal of Season, Score Shorthanded Tally on Themselves (Video)

Allowing a shorthanded goal is deflating enough for a team, but the Canucks really upped the ante on the momentum-killer on Saturday night. Late in the second period with the game knotted up at 1-1, Vancouver went on the man-advantage when Montreal’s Jared Tinordi was sent to the box after an interference call. About 30 seconds into the power play, Lars Eller cleared the puck...

Roberto Luongo Gave Up An Own Goal, Except When He Didn't...

((HT: Sportsnet)) Let's face it... The HQ has no idea what is up with Roberto Luongo, but it seems like he's gone all Schleprock on us... The dark cloud seems to follow- regardless of how much effort he seems to make to the contrary... Your new round of evidence is below... Lars Eller, technically, gets credit for a short-handed, game-winning goal... ...

Video: Canucks score bizarre own goal

The Vancouver Canucks scored one of the strangest own-goals you'll ever see when they hosted the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night. While on a power-play, Roberto Luongo moved behind his net and played the puck over to Jason Garrison. Garrison left the puck for Dan Hamhuis. Hamhuis lost the handle and the puck squirted toward Luongo who was now facing away from the action...

Canucks D Edler suspended 3 games

Vancouver Canucks defenseman Alex Edler has been suspended three games for an illegal check to the head of San Jose Sharks forward Tomas Hertl. The NHL made the announcement on Friday. The hit came late in the second period of Vancouver's 4-1 loss to San Jose on Thursday night. Edler popped Hertl's helmet off as the 19-year-old was reaching for the puck. There was no penalty...

Vancouver Canucks Defenseman Alex Edler suspended 3-games for illegal hit

Vancouver Canucks defenseman Alex Edler, a repeat offender is given a Shannaban for this dirty hit on Sharks forward Tomas Hertl who's taken the NHL by storm with his play so far this season. Hertl has scored (6g-1a--7pts) in four games this season and scored four goals in one game against the New York Rangers.  My question is; did Edler target Hertl to make a point, or is Edler...

Canucks' Alex Edler suspended for 3 games for hit on Hertl

Vancouver Canucks defenceman Alex Edler received a three-game suspension Friday for checking San Jose Sharks forward Tomas Hertl in the head during a game Thursday night. The incident occurred with 14 seconds left in the second period of Vancouver’s 4-1 loss to San Jose. Hertl was chasing the puck as it left the Sharks’ zone. The 19-year-old was leaning forward reaching for...

Vancouver Canucks Score Bizarre Goal On Themselves

I’m with the announcer. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a hockey goal scored like this. The Vancouver Canucks scored on themselves after Dan Hamhuis lost the puck behind his own net.  The puck bounced off both skates of goalie Roberto Luongo and slowly crawled across the goal line. I’m not sure if this beats Jonathan Quick’s blunder for Worst Goal of the Year but it’s definitely...

Price makes 39 saves, Canadiens top Canucks 4-1

Carey Price made 39 saves and Lars Eller got credit for a bizarre short-handed winner in the Montreal Canadiens' 4-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. Max Pacioretty, Tomas Plekanec and Josh Gorges also scored for Montreal, and Raphael Diaz added two assists. Henrik Sedin replied for Vancouver, which got 34 saves from Roberto Luongo. He also stopped Pacioretty on...

Time for Therrien to let the kids play

It’s time to start treating the kids like adults. Going into the National Hockey League season it appeared that Canadiens head coach Michel Therrien would have three well-balanced lines capable of scoring. Based on past performances the potential is still there but over the first four games the Canadiens have been a one-line team and that line is composed of whoever is between...

Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks Game Review: Sharks Take Another Bite

Thursday October 10 San Jose 4 - Vancouver 1 After conjuring up unlikely overtime wins in their last two games, the Vancouver Canucks ran out of magic as they fell 4-1 to the San Jose Sharks for the second consecutive Thursday. For a game between divisional rivals that could have been seen as a measuring stick, the contest was a surprisingly listless affair. There wasn...
