When the issue was Michael Vick's(notes) reinstatement to the NFL, I was 100% behind the fleet-of-foot former dog murderer. It wasn't about forgiving, or even forgetting. To me, it was an issue of fairness, of believing that ex-cons still deserve a modicum of respect and of a man's right to go back to the only job he's ever known. Now Vick's back on the field (though not really distinguishing himself), as eligible as can be, and of course, I'm happy about that. I'll be honest, though. As much as I've supported Vick in his quest to resume his career, the fact that he's once again a paid endorser for Nike chaps my nether regions. Did I like the idea of him playing football again? Yes. Do I like the idea of him once again being a marketing superstar? No. No, I do not. Maybe that makes me a hypocrite. I don't know. I was comfortable with him getting his old job back at whatever the market deemed was acceptable pay. This Nike deal, tho...
