The Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Indians appear to be closing in on a trade that would send Victor Martinez to Boston for prospects.

Talks between the teams have "heated up" in the final hours before the 4 p.m. ET non-waiver trade deadline, sources told ESPN's Peter Gammons.

The Red Sox have spent several days working on parallel deals with Toronto for Roy Halladay, San Diego for first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, and Cleveland for Martinez, but there were indications late Thursday and early Friday that they were making little or no headway with Toronto and San Diego, and that they were attempting to make the pieces fit solely with Cleveland.

Since the Red Sox have a overabundance of first baseman that include Big Papi, Youkillis, and Adam LaRoche it has been rumored by NYBD that the Mets would acquire Adam LaRoche for what nobody knows... The Mets obviously dropped the ball again and went cheap.  I can't believe that the Mets are getting another first basemen with Murphy improving and Delgado coming back soon.
