Before Friday night’s game against the Colorado Rockies, the Arizona Diamondbacks paid tribute to the 19 firefighters who lost their lives fighting the Yarnell Hill fire last week. The Diamondbacks and Rockies both wore hats that said Prescott Fire Dept. during pregame warmups. The D-backs also wore special jerseys that said “Arizona” in block letters on the front and a “19″ patch over the heart instead of their normal “D-backs” to express solidarity with the entire state. The video below is incredibly touching. After 19 seconds of silence, the honor band of the Professional Fire Fighters of Arizona played “Amazing Grace” while images of the fallen heroes were shown on the Jumbotron in center field. The oldest to perish was 43, while 14 were in their 20s, and four wives of the deceased are expecting children. Though the fire is no 80 percent contained, 20 men from the Granite Mountain Hotshots volunteered to combat the blaze in rough terrain 100 miles north of Phoenix when zero per...

Bloomquist's hand injury eerily similar to Hill's

PHOENIX -- Willie Bloomquist has a picture of the two small bone fractures on the top of his left hand saved in his phone, a reminder of what he has to overcome. This time. Skaggs gives D-backs just what they need

PHOENIX -- Tyler Skaggs gave the Diamondbacks exactly what they needed Friday night. With the D-backs' bullpen running on fumes and the starting rotation having scuffled for the better part of a month, Skaggs stepped into the breach with the best outing of his young career in a 5-0 victory over the Rockies. On the day he was recalled from Class AAA Reno, the young left-hander...

D-backs' Miley on a roll since rediscovering form

PHOENIX -- Wade Miley's three-run double in the second inning of the Diamondbacks' 11-1 win over the Rockies on Saturday thrilled the Chase Field crowd more than anything else during the left-hander's night, but the D-backs are almost certainly more excited about the roll he's been on the past month. After a dreadful May seemed to land him in manager Kirk Gibson...

PHOENIX -- It took just four days for Diamondbacks fans to donate more than 100,000 to victims of the Yarnell fire -- a figure matched by the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation -- so the D-backs charitable arm announced Friday that it would match another 100,000 for contributions made through dbacks.com19. The generosity of our fans over the past four days has been truly inspirational...

Diamondbacks Catcher Miguel Montero Gives His Bat Some Love and Gets None in Return

When it comes to picking the right piece of equipment player have their own methods--some stranger than others--to help them pick the right stuff. Sometimes its something simple like getting the feel for the weight of a bat and taking a few swings, and sometimes its something a lot more intimate. Like a little tongue action. Tyler Skaggs Dominates in Return for Arizona

Arizona Diamondbacks starter Tyler Skaggs was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Friday to replace an injured Trevor Cahill, who was placed on the 15-day DL on Monday with a right hip contusion, and turned in a masterful outing against the Colorado Rockies at Chase Field. After trying road trip, D-backs glad to be home for a spell

Up until the past week and a half, the road had been fairly kind to the Diamondbacks. They were 20-18 away from Chase Field and had won some big games in opponents' parks. But then came a brutal 10-game East Coast swing that probably has the D-backs clamoring for the comforts of home, especially after playing 14 total extra innings and sitting through more than four hours of...

Bullpens are settling in as we near the All-Star break. We’ll run through some of the major issues this week and some quick notes at the end as usual. I’ll try to put a trade preview piece together for next week’s column unless we see some major movement. Arizona Diamondbacks J.J. Putz was back and then he wasn’t. He was pulled from his role as closer to build arm strength...
