With the final release of the Scout300 player rankings Florida finds itself with a pretty full class and still in pursuit of quite a few big time players within the Scout300. The Florida Gators have eight early enrollees on hand for the spring semester including two junior college transfers. Seeking their first SEC win, the Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs hosted the Florida Gators Thursday night at the Hump. The contest proved to be a difficult one as Mississippi State fell short 61-55.
No. 11 Florida and LSU fought through a sloppy first half before the Gators took a nine-point lead at halftime. After that, it was all Florida. Without senior guard Mike Rosario (sprained ankle) and Casey Prather spraining his ankle during the first half, the Gators took control of the second half. Kenny Boynton led Florida with 20 points while Will Yeguete added 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Casey Prather found out on Wednesday morning that he would be starting Florida’s Southeastern Conference opener. Fractured ribs for Erik Murphy and knee tendonitis for Will Yeguete pushed Prather into the starting lineup, and he saw it coming after Tuesday’s practice ended with both still hobbled. Prather scored the first six points of the game, sparking the Gators to take an 11-0 lead.
