Around The Rink:
With the San Francisco 49ers playing in Super Bowl 47 this weekend, their success has been rubbing off on another Bay Area team.
Sharks forward Logan Couture paid homage to their nearby NFL counterparts by using Colin Kaepernick’s trademarked celebration. After Couture stole the puck at center ice and ripped a wrister past Edmonton goalie Devan Dubnyk, Couture curled his bicep and kissed it, a move that has been dubbed “Kaepernicking”. Check it out.
We’ll see if Couture keeps up the celebration or if it’s just a one-time-only deal to congratulate their NFL neighbors. The Sharks are undefeated through seven games, so they might have a lot more celebrating to do this season.

It appears that Red Robin is officially on the Colin Kaepernick bandwagon. It appears that word got to Red Robin that Colin loves their burgers, so Red Robin went one step further and are offering him free Red Robin for life if he leads the 49ers to victory on Sunday. Previously on Outside the Boxscore, we featured a post talking about the art of "Kaepernicking" as made famous by San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kapernick.
During last night's San Jose Sharks/Edmonton Oilers affair, Sharks center Logan Couture scored a goal in the second period and decided to "Kaepernick" with his goal celebration:
Who knows what will happen on Sunday at the Superdome to add to a challenging week for Colin Kaepernick. It’s the biggest week for the man, a moment that he can prove that he’s tried, true and tested to handle the demands as a burgeoning quarterback. In a few days the man with the goatee and tattoos will step out of the tunnel to take on the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XLVII...
Super Bowl fever has gripped the Bay Area with the San Francisco 49ers getting set to play in the Super Bowl, and that excitement has found its way onto the ice as well.

San Francisco may just be hoarding all the quarterbacks.
With Colin Kaepernick looking like the 49ers’ starter for some time, the common assumption has been that San Francisco will look to trade away backup Alex Smith. The veteran, who was picked No. 1 in the draft in 2005 but didn’t have success as a starter until recently, wouldn’t be of much use if the job is Kaepernick’s...

New terms like “Read option” and “Pistol” have been introduced to the average football fan’s vocabulary. With anything new, there is a period of adjustment that is to be expected. It seemed like only yesterday that successful NFL offenses were slinging the football all over the field and a glorified 7-on-7 drill was the future of the game. Quarterbacks like Drew Brees,...
