You read that right. There is no lost context here. ESPN analyst Merril Hoge said just that on Tuesday’s SportsCenter. Baltimore Ravens QB and Super MVP Joe Flacco is the best quarterback in the NFL. I’m still trying to pick myself up off the floor after seeing the video myself. Here it is: At least we can give Hoge credit for being objective, being that he played his entire career with the Steelers. The problem is that rationale he uses. Apparently, Flacco doesn’t have the same weapons on his offense than other top flight QBs. Yeah, okay. For what it is worth, Flacco’s game went to another level when he discovered the awesome talent that is Torrey Smith in his lineup. Also, Ray Rice is probably considered a top-5 running back in the NFL. Look, Flacco had amazing postseason run this year, and proved himself to be able to play at a high-level in the toughest of situations. But one has to look at the overall picture when talking about this, and while Flacco finds himself in the top half of QBs in the NFL, he certainly isn’t the very best.
