The Fighting Illini football team hosted a number of visitors this past weekend, including a few commits. Linebacker Mason Monheim had visited campus a number of times, but this visit was his first as an Illinois commit. He fit right in.

Two Games Mirror Images Of One Another

Turnabout is fair play. The Fighting Illini defeated Minnesota at home in overtime back in late December. In the return match in Minneapolis, the Illini had the lead late but allowed the Gophers to tie the game on a three point play in regulation. Minnesota then dominated overtime to win 77-72. Poor shooting, especially from the arc and free throw line, was the Illini downfall.

Illini Need Maximum Effort Against Gophers

The Fighting Illini basketball team is at a crossroads. After two straight losses, it is facing the meat of its conference schedule beginning with a trip to Minnesota Saturday night. Can it bounce back and compete for the Big 10 championship? Or will it lose more confidence with another loss? Minnesota played the Illini tough previously and will be doubly difficult at home.

The second-ranked Fighting Illini men's gymnastics team took down No. 1 Oklahoma (347.700) and No. 7 Michigan (339.100) Saturday night at Huff Hall with an overall team score of 349.800. Redshirt senior Paul Ruggeri captured titles on vault and high bar, passing head coach Justin Spring (59) on the all-time titles list with 60 career wins to rank fifth in school history.

W. Swimming. Illini Take Three Losses at Big Ten Quad Duals

The Fighting Illini swimming and diving team fell to Minnesota (314.5-51.5), Purdue (287-79) and Wisconsin (260-93) in the final day of action at Big Ten Quad Duals on Saturday.

W. Tennis. Illini End ITA Kick-Off Weekend with 6-1 Loss to #3 Duke

The Fighting Illini women's tennis team (3-0) will look to continue its early success at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kick-Off Weekend, hosted by Duke, Jan. 27-29. Third-seeded Illinois will face second-seeded Winthrop in the first round on Friday at 9 a.m. CT.

W. Swimming. Illini Trail After Day One of Big Ten Quad Duals

After day one of the Big Ten Quad Duals, the Fighting Illini swimming and diving team trails Minnesota (176.5-28.5), Purdue (158-47) and Wisconsin (146-59). The Orange and Blue participated in 10 events Friday evening, earning one second-place finish, and will compete in nine more events to finish out the meet tomorrow afternoon.
