No. 8 North Carolina fell to No. 16 Southern California, 4-2, in the opening round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships Friday afternoon at the Boar's Head Sports Club. Carolina won the doubles point but fell behind 3-1 early in singles and was unable to complete a furious rally.

When the University of North Carolina fired former head coach Butch Davis, it put itself on the hook for a $2.7 million buyout through 2015 that would be reduced if Davis coaches "in a college or professional program."
Third-ranked North Carolina got four goals from Kara Cannizzaro and three from Abbey Friend on its way to an 11-9 win over fourth-ranked Florida on Saturday afternoon at Fetzer Field in the season opener for both teams. University of North Carolina freshman guard P.J. Hairston is sidelined with a sore left foot and will be unable to play in tomorrow's ACC game against the Virginia Cavaliers. Hairston has played in all 24 games and is the Tar Heels' seventh-leading scorer at 6.6 points per contest.
