ARLINGTON, Texas The three weeks since the Texas Rangers lost the World Series have been busy for manager Ron Washington. He's been dealing with getting ready for next season and the death of his mother. One thing Washington hasn't had any time to do is second guess any of the decisions that were made in the World Series. It's not in his character. "I don't think you can ever forget it," said Washington, who met with the media Friday for the first time since the World Series. "I know with all my heart we put ourselves in a great position and we didn't get it done. Obviously that's the way baseball happens. You pick yourself up and you go back at it again." There were no exit interviews between Washington and the players after the season. He's trying to give them time off to rest and get recharged. Once that time is over, it will be on to the task at hand winning the World Series in 2012 after losing in the Series in each of the last two seasons. "We know what we have to do," he said. "We'll start moving in that direction. Until the holidays are over, I want them to enjoy their families and their time. The bad taste from the World Series we'll deal with that. It certainly won't steer us in the wrong direction." Among other things that have been on Washington's mind: The 2012 role of right-hander Neftali Feliz: "I haven't discussed that with Jon (Daniels) or anyone yet. It's certainly something we will talk about. I haven't had an opportunity to talk about it. Until we move forward in the winter on how we set things up, I don't have a comment on that." Will the struggles of Feliz in Game 6 impact that decision? "No. It won't impact any decision we make moving forward. We're going to make our decisions when the time presents itself and we're going to stand by it, whatever it is." His thoughts on the team re-signing left-hander C.J. Wilson: "He's one of the best pitchers in the American League. Of course we want him back. There's a process. He's in a position where he can go out there and find out if there's someplace else he fits better. We just have to wait for the process." Where his team needs to get better: "We need to improve everywhere bench, starting pitching. If we can find some out there that fits, bullpen. Every area in the game of baseball we're going to try and improve." The leaked pre-game speech from Game 7: "They (fans) got a chance to see what goes on behind closed doors. It was all positive. That's the way I do things. It's something private. That's why you close the doors but it got out. It's another thing you've just got to deal with." On pitching coach Mike Maddux remaining with the Rangers: "As it turned out, going into 2012, so far one good thing has happened for the Texas Rangers. He means everything (to the pitchers). He makes them believe." On the rotation being set with the exception of Feliz and Wilson: "There can be fluctuation. We're only in November. We've still got a lot to look at, a lot to decide. C.J. still has to decide where he wants to be. Then the rest of it we'll look at. We know the guys who are here. We just have to see who's available to stabilize what we need to stabilize." On the Astros moving to the AL West: "It's nice to make that trip down to Houston three times and that takes away making a trip somewhere else. Now we've got the rivalry of Texas. We've got Texas Rangers fans down in Houston and they've got fans up in this area. They showed last year they have some young talent that they may be ready to hang their hat on. I'm looking forward to it." On Josh Hamilton playing through sports hernia: "The one thing I was most impressed with was Hamilton showed up and played. I love him even more for that because I told Josh it's not his production that's important it's that he shows up and has his presence in that lineup because he makes his teammates better. He showed up."
