What if the Royals were just good, not great, at defense?

Quick thought about defense: What if the Royals -- or any team, for that matter -- changed their scouting philosophy to focus on defense? This doesn't mean trying to find a really good center fielder and then filling in the rest. It doesn't mean trading for Yuniesky Betancourt and then hoping his tools catch up.
