What Would Have Happened If Mike Vick Said No To The Eagles?

Posted July 21, 2013

With this sudden burst of people ASSuming Kelly really just wants his quarterback Vick and this competition is nothing more than a facade, I can’t help but wonder what would have happened if several months ago Mike Vick told the Eagles he 1) wouldn’t take a pay cut, and he 2) wouldn’t battle in a competition for the Eagles starting quarterback position? Do you think the Eagles would have just said okay and gave into Vick? After all they approached Nnamdi with the same offer and he told them to take a hike. He was promptly released. Do those who believe if Kelly really wants Mike Vick would chance losing him if he didn’t agree to those terms? Personally I find it odd that anyone would even risk giving Mike the chance to tell him no if they really “want” the guy. More intriguing is how Mike responded afterwards. He talked openly about looking forward to the competition at the time and wanting to prove himself. Of course I don’t think at the time he considered Foles a legit threat to supplant him. At least not until OTAs came around and Foles shined a little. Suddenly the idea of having to share reps and competition weren’t as good of an idea to Vick. So what’s the story people? How do you risk losing a guy that you “want” as stated by some or “need” as stated by others? Still Kelly could end all this by simply naming Vick the starter. Strangely he hasn’t despite the cries of Vick and Jackson. What a strange way to treat a player you allegedly can’t play without and want so desperately?
